Dyeing over Bleached Hair?

As fun as it was to be blonde, I'm getting pretty tired of the upkeep. Seriously, I have to mix bleach in a bucket because my hair is so long. I knew that it was going to be a lot of work doing it myself, but holy moly this is nuts!

I have decided to go back to something closer to my natural color. This is where I need some advice. As is my nature, I've researched this to death, and now I just need to finalize little details before pulling the trigger. ;)

The Situation: My hair is currently around a level 10 sort of yellow blonde, with a solid four inches of level 4 neutral brown roots (haven't bleached in about three weeks). My hair is still quite healthy despite being bleached every other week for over three months. It is long; down to my lower back. If I bleach again before I color, my hair will lighten to about a level 11 and I can tone it to a more neutral blonde (versus yellow).

The Plan: I want to go to a level 3 or 4, warm red-violet based brown (NOT burgundy or purple-brown). I selected Ion demi-permanent 7WR (which really looks like a medium brown with a red-violet tinge, not blonde at all), but I also got 7NB in case things get a little too warm.

I know that I need to use a red-toned filler before I attempt to color, or else I risk my hair turning a not-so-lovely shade of khaki green or resisting any color at all. This is where this all gets a little fuzzy.

Questions:
- Do I need to bleach my atrocious roots to a similar color as the length of my hair, or will the dark dye not make a huge difference?
- If the 7WR ends up being too red or turns copper/auburn, can I go over it with the 7NB to bring it back to what I want it to be, or should I plan on toning it with green dye? (My hair doesn't take toners, I found that out already.)

I'll attach a photo of what I want, and what I don't want. Thanks for the help!

If this helps, here's my hair as of early October (add approximately three inches of roots to get to what I have now, excuse the costume) and my natural color (about a level 3/4).

Your bleached hair is going to soak up the dye like a sponge. So be very careful with that. I would say apply the dye to your roots first then work it through the rest of your hair. That way it processes longer than the bleached part, which will absorb the dye faster than the roots as it's become more porous due to the bleaching.

Otherwise I would be worried about the blonde dying darker than the roots.

Oh interesting! I figured the roots would end up darker since they are starting out darker, but that makes sense. So I can get away with skipping the bleach then?

I would think so!
