Hair problem! Help!

I have been trying to grow out my shoulder length hair for about 3 years, but my hair hasn't grown an inch since then.. I know my hair grows from the roots (I've had blonde hair and I had to touch up my roots) but I have a lot of breakage from the ends. My hair is very damaged from hot tools (straightener, curling iron etc.) and I have had bleached hair for a year. I'm naturally curly, but when I get out the shower and let my hair airdry it isn't curly anymore, but rather just a big, dry mess. Because of that, I'm always straightening it, causing it damage more! I can't seem to get out of this cycle! I want my long (and healthy) hair back, but in the meantime I don't want to walk around like a zombie neither.

I thought maybe I would chop my hair off short (like a bob) to get rid of the most of the damaged ends and let my hair grow from there on, like a new start. And in the meantime I want to straighten my hair only once a week and treat it very well with good shampoos, conditioners, hair masks and henna (I have used henna in the past and my hair was so healthy when I was using it). Do you guys think that's a good solution? If you guys have other tips/tricks, please let me know. I'm really desperate at the moment.. everybody's hair is growing, but mine is still at the same length for over 3 years. It's so frustrating!!

PS. Sorry for the bad English, it's not my first language.

I say cut the breakage, then leave it alone. There are millions of heatless methods to do your hair. Since you let it airdry, the methods should be perfect for you.

That way there's no damage left, no heat, and your just letting it do it's thing.

Thank you everybody for the advice. You have convinced me to cut off all the damage. My hair will be so short, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice. I can't stop using heat at all though. Like I said my hair isn't curly anymore, but rather a big, dry and frizzy mess. I really can't leave the house without straightening it with a straightener. But my intention is to only use the straightener once a week (after washing my hair). That's a big step for me, since now I straighten my hair every 3 days and curl it almost everyday with a curling iron. Thanks again ladies!

Grab yourself a Tangle Teezer! They really reduce the damage! And only use a wide-toothed comb when it's wet. It can be tricky to get used to letting it dry naturally, but your hair will thank you for letting it do its own thing! I actually quite like how my hair naturally dries now, it used to annoy me!

You could definitely t the curl conditioner treatment from Garnier. Or however it is spelled or said... It's in a small green bottle with an orange lid cap thing and smells amazing. I used that sheet I damaged my hair in addition to my masks etc. And it helped bring my curl Beck. And it was super cheap!

I think your idea is great :) I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago and cut all my ends off because I was previously blonde and my hair feels much nicer now that my ends have been cut :) also I've found a good leave in treatment that I've been using religiously, it'll calm the frizz down and help return your hair to it's softer state; it's the Edward Beale maroccan gloss argan oil leave in treatment :) comes in a bigger sized bottle that's pink and smells super good too. :)

I'd invest in a Wet Brush.

Omg omg, I did it guys! My hair is SHORT (well, medium length I guess). And I added some bangs to it, because it felt a little bit too boring for my taste. I actually quite like it! It feels sooo much healthier and softer now all the damaged ends are gone (and it looks much better too obviously). Do you guys want a picture?
