I have an OCD habit of biting and picking at my nails and most of the time I'm not even aware I'm doing it, or how bad it is.
I usually try to get gel nails done, but it's becoming expensive so I wanted to take a break from it.
So it's to the point now where it's become painful and it's embarrassing.
So how do I treat my nails and stop this habit.

I did that and my dad made me wear mittens for a week 😁😁 I absolutely hated it!! But I would create a distraction every time I did or I would go to the salon and spend 75$ on acrylics or a perfect manicure just so I wouldn't pick at my nails Cuz then I would be wasting money 😭😭if I did 😭😭

Also had this problem, I think most people did at some point.
first of all there is a bitter nail polish you can use. it's really gross so at least you will be aware of what you are doing and stop yourself.
the next yhing which actually helped me the most is just going to get a regular professional manicure. it makes the nails look pretty and you won't want to ruin it.

I also had that bad habit when I was younger. Now I still sometimes tend to do it unconsciously when I'm really stressing out.
What helped for me at that time was just putting nail polish on... The fact there was a layer of paint on it, and actually 'tasting' it whenever I bit my nail, made me realize just how weird it was to do that. You're biting off a piece that's part of your body! Plus the nail polish makes your nails look that little better, what will motivate you to keep growing them and look nicer every day :) This tip is really basic, but I can kind of relate to you, so I just wanted to share it and wish you luck!

I used to have this
Whenever I started to bite I would just sit on my nails
The pressure distracts me
I ended up biting again so I tried the same plus when I get the urge to bite I just run my fingernails on my teeth and try not to bite and it helped

My friend told me something that really made me stop biting my nails because I thought it was so gross she said that all the dirt and all the bacteria and all the germs throughout the day stay under your nails and when you bite them they go into your mouth, and like everything else that goes and has to come out...they come out as pimples:0 after I stopped biting my nails I honestly stopped breaking out as much as I used to.

Yeah I noticed way less breakouts when I'm not biting but it's such an unconscious and stress included habit that it's hard to get away from, even given the info you know.
Nail polish and the tasting ones barely bother me, I more so pick at the nails instead of just biting, and then it becomes obsessive to see how short they can get.
I dunno haha super stressful and painful!

There's this thing my nanny used to buy me, it's like clear polish but when you bite your nails you get a horrible taste and eventually you'll stop. I can't seem to remember the name though, maybe just go into your local pharmacy and explain they'll give you the name.

I used to do this! I picked at the skin around my nails. Try physically stopping yourself or scotch tape or plasters over and round your nails 😊hope this helps 😘

I used to do the same thing, I stopped biting my nails the way Ari did but I couldn't stop picking the skin that easily now they look horrible even if I stopped picking??

My grandma used to put garlic nail polish on my sisters nails& that helped her stop, you can get it at any Mexican store :-)

Yeah those bad tasting polishes don't do too much when I usually pick instead of bite.
I guess it's just a matter off controlling myself now haha.
I find they grow back in overnight pretty quick so they're not so painful.
Hopefully by the end of this week I can get a set done.

Why don't you try distracting yourself with something else :-)?
