I also was just curious about senior pictures. Everybody says to have a professional do them and not an "amateur" photographer. However I'm not happy about having to spend $200-$300 on pictures. I have a family friend who's really good at photography and does it constantly she just doesn't have any special equipment- it's just her camera. Do you think this would be okay or should I spend the extra $100 on getting it professionally done?

Well the only difference is, professionals have lighting equipment. But my mom is close to a professional, she doesn't have any equipment and her pictures are excellent. You don't have to use a professional.

I agree with Erin^^
You don't have to have all the fancy equipment to make something look good

That's a good picture Erin! Just use a good camera (you can have all the fancy stuff but if you have a cheap camera, it will still look bad), and natural lighting.

I think as long as her pictures are good and her camera is good quality then go for it. I have a friend who's brother forgot to get his done and took a picture with his iPhone outside then emailed it to the school. It looked just as professional as everyone else's.

You pretty. Much just need a good camera and good lighting lol natural lighting works best.
This are two that my mom took, the one on the left is a pic of an invitation and it has a filter reason why it looks kind of dark and weird. The camera used was a canon rebel t31
Lol I refused to take pics in my cap and gown as senior pictures so I waited till prom and used those haha

I agree. If her pictures are good, who needs any equipment?? :)

I had my senior pictures taken by my aunt... She has a friend who is a professional.
My aunt basically learned from her friend. But just has a camera as well.
Everyone I knew went with a professional while I went with my aunt
Everyone from my school said I had the best senior pictures :)
I don't believe it really matters who takes them
Just the creativeness behind it!

It depends on the quality of her camera, and for lightning just use natural. Over cast days I personally think are the best for shoots or sun rise and sun set. Mid day is the worst time to take photos. Also be careful of color tones. Being very interested in photography I notice small things like a red tone to a photo, but that is easy to fix. But as long as you are happy with your picture who cares.

Example, in this photo in the back and sort of in the windows I lost the detail and that ruins the composition
