Ok so I'm going blonde in 2 days :D I'm currently a dark brunette with a lot of dye buildup (3 years worth).
My question is:
is there anything I can do in preparation for going blonde? (Full head of foils).
Should I deep condition my hair? Should I wash my hair?
Anything I can do to help prevent too much damage?
Thanks chickies!! X

You shouldn't wash your hair, but you should have been deep conditioning, using hair masks, etc.in preparation. probably at least a month ahead of time.

Should I re-book for later and do deep conditioning treatments for a while??

I've got very healthy hair. No split ends or anything.

Definitely use protein treatments and deep conditioning treatments. The bleach will take out the color as well as some of the natural protein that the hair is made of so you'll need to add some more since you'll be losing some if that makes sense? My cosmetologist teacher taught us that

Foils on that color alone won't bring blonde. It often takes a few sessions spaced apart to get a more healthy, natural looking blonde. I love your dark hair on you!

I've postponed my appointment for another week, so that I can at least get a weeks worth of treatments into my hair :)
@ Aurora S: I'll defiantly do some protein and deep conditioning treatments! And yes that did make sense :)
@Rozberry J: oh ok, the hairdresser said it would but I'll take your word for it! Thank you!! I love it too and I'm naturally a blonde but I've been dark for years now so thought I would go light again :D

@Rozeberry J: do you recommend another way to go blonde? Instead of foils?

Make sure they do a deep conditioning treatment after to, I just did my friends hair other day from brown to blonde and I just conditioned it aftet and told her specific products to use and her hair is amazing

Use a deep cleansing shampoo a daycare two before you start bleaching/coloring your hair. This will help you to get rid of some excess color :-)

I was a natural burnette before and when I bleached my hair with foils it came out a real pretty blonde.
now my hair was dyed red then dark brown. I waited a few weeks later to get highlights again and I didn't like how the blonde came out at all. it was more of a brassy caramel color. I used a toner and purple shampoo but still didn't like the color so I dyed it back to dark brown.
so your results may vary. I did get my hair professionally bleached too.
a good hair mask is redkin diamond oil, it's a 10 , and coconut oil. I also use one and only keratin hair mask too to keep my hair strong. and of course I had a trim too.
for a shampoo and conditioner use a color protected one. Pureology is really good. all of purology products are color protected.
I'd love to see your results when you go to get your highlights :)

I think you should leave the "how" to a talented, experienced pro. I'm currently lifting a dark section of my hair (just a patch) and we're doing it with foil... but slowly. Don't want crunchy hair..lol. I would suspect your stylist may do an all over lift..and then foil from there...to keep orange or brass at bay. Too many hairdressers say, "Oh! I can make you blonde"...and then give a God awful shade...don't tone it properly and then wreck your hair in the process. If your hair were lighter brown, this would be less work, but that doesn't mean you can't get a great blonde shade. I just recommend a gradual approach to the color. I've never used protein treatments or prepped my hair for blonde, but my natural color is much lighter than your current shade. Do your research on Foursquare or Yelp and make sure your stylist is a master color specialist. Some people are better at cuts than color. They should provide you with a consultation prior to coloring in which they examine your hair condition and current color...and then decide how to proceed. I never tell my stylist how to do color. She decides the healthiest way because she's the pro and her talent supersedes my whims...lol
