Sooo this is probably the exact opposite of what most people are trying to achieve but I was wondering if there was a way to prevent tanning. I'm going to be working at a summer camp for a couple months and I'm super excited. However, the last thing I want is to change my skin tone or get those unsightly farmers tans from the uniforms and such. So my question is, how do I prevent tanning?!? I already use Neutrogena Sunscreen but from personal experience SPF doesn't really prevent tanning (at least from personal experience). So, can anybody help me?

Maybe using something with higher spf and being well coverd and a big big hat.

You can't really prevent it. just cover up & wear sunscreen. exfoliate too.

A higher spf, big hates (floppy ones are adorable), and VERY breathable long sleeve cover ups for you arms.

Spf will help protect you from you've rays but only reduce tanning a little! since you can't really limit the time you spend outdoors this summer, I think the only thing you can do is to cover up with light layers and wear a hat. here's a good article on choosing the most protective fabrics/colors. http://skincancer.epubxp.com/I/65757/71.

SPF with Both UVA and UVB.. Broad spectrum.
Re apply every two hours. Layer it on for better results.
Go with at least SPF 50.

I agree with Kitty. Everyone worries about SPF, but unless you are using a broad spectrum sunscreen, you aren't truly protecting yourself. Look for a sunscreen with Zinc Oxide as the active ingredient...invest in some great sunglasses, a hat and cover up. Reapplication is also necessary. Helioplex sunscreens are less quick to break down in sunlight and is more stable than your average protection.

I use a broad spectrum uva uba sunscreen SPF 100 :) I apply it always because I tan in blotches and its just ick. I also religiously exfoliate. Maybe it'll be enough. Thank you guys though!! :) Hopefully it'll be enough! I don't wanna rematch my foundation >.<

I use a invisible zinc stick on my nose as I find it burns quite easily. This is in addition to 'slip slop slap.'

Spf, cover up, use a hat, scarf, as much as possible. Rub tomato on your skin daily before a bath. The best way not to get tanned is don't stay too much in d sun.

Like rozberry said, use a sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. it's also very important your sunscreen goes on white. they look white because the particles are larger and provide more protection. clear sunscreen contains zinc nanoparticles which are way smaller and likely dangerous for your skin. also stay away from sunscreens with retinyl palmitate. it's a great ingredient for nighttime because it's exposing new skin cells. these cells are super sensitive to sun, and burn easily. retinyl palmitate breaks down in sunlight as well, so it's not doing anything to protect the skin. (paraphrased from skin rules by Dr. Debra jaliman- a great, informative, super easy to read book. totally worth the read if you get the chance!)
