A very good friend of mine, whose skin is black as night (so gorgeous!!) happened to mention she was looking for a good product for skin bleaching.
I didn't really liked the way it sounded, but she is pretty convinced that it is a save procedure that "everyone" is doing these days.
My question is: did I fall asleep and woke up in the freaking past?
And
Is it really save to do something like that?
I'm terrified that she's going to do something that will end up putting her health in danger. I didn't know that was a trend. Is it a trend?
Am I being a total butthead by being so worried?

Unfortunately this is something that is done and by a lot of people ,it's terrible for their skin ,it can cause permanent scaring,burns,and irreversible pigmentation problems and also can cause cancer so I don't know why people are so desperate to be lighter I just don't get it.

It is not safe. Esp. when used to the extent of using it everyday several times a day on their whole body, like a lot of people are doing. You can Google it on YouTube & check it out yourselves.

This is so sad to read. I really hope you can prevent her from doing this Mariana. Its pretty popular all over the world...especially in countries with a traditional caste system in place. The girls pretty much nailed the details as to how dangerous it is so I won't go into details on that but I do suggest showing your friend pics of beautiful dark skinned models and actresses.

Oh no!! I get so scared every time girls ask about skin bleaching on here, and after hearing Traci explain exactly how dangerous it is I'm even more scared that people would do it!
I envy girls of color so much for there beauty - its such a shame that society have put this idea in people's head that lighter means more beautiful because that is so not the case!! Tell your friend from me that I bet she is as beautiful as can be and that her skin color is part of what makes her beautiful and unique! No need to put dangerous skin bleaching on her skin and ruin her natural beauty!

Night is actually pitch black. I'm white as snow in winter. Night is beautiful and it's an innocent hyperbole that I'm sure was intended to be descriptive rather than offensive. I've found that seeking out offense, usually results in finding it.
I agree with the ladies' advice. Sounds dangerous.

Unless you are a woman of color you won't understand why saying a dark skin person is black as night might be offensive to some people ,we all know she ment no harm and didn't mean to offend anyone ,and is truly concerned about her friend ,sooo let's all move on ,please the end lol.

Omg! Didn't mean to offend anyone. Rozberry is totally right I meant it as a compliment because she's gorgeous and because she tells me I'm white as cheese. I don't get offended either cause I like cheese.
We are Colombian and over there racial labels are actually overrated because we are all mixed with everything.
Anyways, I want to thank you all. I showed her the thread and some videos and she promised me not to try change her beautiful skin. And told me to send a hug to all of you. 💜💜💜
