I want to get my hair some kind of purple...even just a hint would make me happy. My hair is dark and I hear great things about Loreal hi color being used on dark hair. Could I use that and maybe add some purple semi-perm dye to it or even use the semi-perm dye after it's dyed red. What do you think the results would be or is it even possible to do it either way like that?

You can definitely use semi perm purple dye after red dye or hi lift. It will probably turn out darker red purple after red dye. If the hi lift only lifts to a golden orange the purple semi on top will probly look like a muddy gross purple. I haven't used loreal hi lift. Most hair stylist don't use boxes. Unless you use bleach on dark hair you probably won't get a vibrant true purple. I could see one of those bright red feria type colors looking good with purple semi over it. Hope this helps at all.

Kristina, I would recommend pre lightning your hair first. Purple over red may not turn out so well. you could to a test strand first and see how it looks. and if you do use the loreal color then get a fushia or red violet. you definitely don't want a true red.

I went from red to purple using the hi lift and then semi permanent purple. Just wait a few washes to let the red fade and it'll cover :)

I don't mind if it isn't a vibrant purple but I definitely don't want a muddy looking color...I think I'll try for the darker red purple then. I'll just remember not to add the purple if my hair is leaning more towards orange..thanks so much!!

Ya I agree with Kelly, definitely not just any old red. Def a red violet type color.
