I'm going to be dying my hair red and I've been told that the dye I'm going to use fades to an orangey brassy colour. Is there any way to prevent that?

Try washing your hair like every two days. Use color-preserving shampoo/conditioners but make sure to get the salon stuff. Not something like Pantene. Don't use too hot water when you shower. Try not to use heat. If you're out side for a long time wear a hat or something...all I can think of right now

Try a color depositing shampoo once a week, it should help keep your hair vibrant I had red hair for a while and it's kind of high maintenance but worth it.

Hair dye is completely different from person to person. it depends on what your base color is when you start and the natural undertones that are in your hair. if you are worried about brassiness, get a dye that has a blue or violet base to it. that will cancel out those undertones so you won't go orange. another thing you can do if your hair does start to look orange is to use a blueing shampoo once a week or get yourself a toner in the red of your choice and mix it with a glaze and use that every so often to refresh your red and seal your hair so its shiny. Don't ever wash your red hair with hot water or it will wash out so quick. avoid washing to frequently too. a cheap trick to brighten your red is john freidas shampoos for redheads and in the shower rinse your hair with cranberry juice. it sounds weird but it works!
