Which uses lesser foundation so you can preserve it longer: sponge, foundation brush, fingers?

I say fingers

Fingers, definitely. It will absorb the least amount of product.

I think the beauty blender. You wet the sponge and wring it out so it doesn't soak up your makeup and it gives you an airbrushed finish

I've looked this up many times. Beauty sponges waste the most foundation. Using fingers for me isn't really a option because it's not sanitary and it doesn't give me a good finish. I use a foundation brush and once it's all applied I then use that beauty sponge to make a softer blended finish! But not to apply the makeup! Hope this helps :)

I do what Lauren does and it's by far my favorite way. I love the coverage a brush gives (I use the real techniques expert face brush) and the way a sponge blends everything. I use the miracle complexion sponge also by real techniques, it's my favorite sponge by far and it's only about $6.

I don't know about how it does with using product though. I can only judge by my needs and I've had my Urban Decay Naked foundation for a few months now using the above method and I still have about half a bottle left. I think it also depends on your needs. I probably use a bit more than I have to but I usually have a lot to cover and I like the finish of the foundation a bit more than my concealer so I tend to use a bit more at times.

Sponges like the wedges use the most amount of product and it wasn't working for me. Instead I use the beauty blender by mac and it doesn't absorb the product. applies very nicely. I hate using my fingers because I don't like the messy feel on hands.

I just watched a Wayne Goss tutorial on this. His answer was using the stipple method with brush.

I would think a stippling brush because the bristles aren't dense and packed together like a brush like UD's optical blurring or a flat foundation brush.
