I wouldn't recommend Mac lipstick. Wet and wild is cheaper and lasts a lot longer then MAC. Ill never understand the hype over MAC

Mac lipsticks are awesome I'm obsessed with there retro matte lipstick in ruby woo, I have yet to find a brand with very matte lipsticks except nyx.

But it's best to play around drugstore first because high end kinds gets addicting and I'm not what your skin type and budget is.

If you go to the Mac counter they can help you pick stuff out and match you and show you how to apply out.

YouTube videos are a great way to learn, as long as you watch the professionals. I recommend Wayne Goss, Lisa Eldridge, and Pixiwoo. Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual is also a great book to learn more.
Some of my favorite brands are NYX, Wet 'N Wild, Rimmel, Catrice, Palladio, Almay, Physician's Formula, and Bourjois. They are all inexpensive, cruelty free, and great quality for the price.

What kind of makeup are you interested in? Do you like eyeshadow looks? Lipstick looks?
To start out, I would buy some easy to use and versatile products.
Face: try a BB Cream or a Tinted Moisturizer to even out your skin tone. I wouldn't go out and buy a foundation right away, I would wait until you are more comfortable using makeup. PLUS BB creams and tinted moisturizers are MUCH easier to match to your skintone. They cover a spectrum of skin tones instead of having to have a perfect match like a foundation requires.
My recommendation: Sonia Kashuk Tinted Moisturizer from Target ($13).
Eyes: I would start with a mascara and then build up from there. Maybe after you become more comfortable with makeup THEN add some eye shadow and eyeliner.
My recommendation: L'Oréal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara available at any drugstore ($7).
Lips: I would start out with a tinted lip balm or a lip stain. These are easy to use and will help you get accustomed to lip colors without such a bright or shocking look. These are much easier to handle and much less intense than a heavier lipstick.
My recommendation: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains available at any drugstore (about $6)
Blush: I don't wear blush too often (my cheeks are quite red to begin with), but NYX and elf have some very affordable and easy to use blushes.
My recommendation: NYX blushes available at Target ($5) and Ulta or elf available at Target ($1-3)
Brushes: If you wanted to wear something that required a brush (blush for example), I would start out with a cheap, but quality brush set.
My recommendation: bh Cosmetics brush sets available online only at bhcosmetics.com ($9+ for a set) or single brushes from elf available at Target ($1-3)
Extras if you want to experiement more:
Eyeshadow: Try a palette from an affordable but quality brand when trying out looks. With a palette, you can get a variety of colors for a lower price, so you can experiment with more looks and colors than if you bought single eyeshadows.
My recommendations: bh Cosmetics palettes available at bhcosmetics.com($7-16), NYX palettes available at Target or Ulta ($7+), or Wet n Wild palettes available at most drug stores ($3-5)
Eyeliner: I would start out with a pencil eyeliner or a liquid pen eyeliner. They are easy to handle and can be found at an affordable price.
My recommendation: NYX pencil ($3.50-8) or liquid liner pens ($9.50) available at Target or Ulta, Wet n Wild Pencil eyeliners available at most drugstores ($1), or any other drugstore eyeliner should work
Lips: If you want to try some lipstick, go for it! Maybe try some lighter, more neutral colors to ease into it and see what you like.
My recommendation: Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick available at most drug stores ($2)
