It wasn't you.. It's the scissors!! You should always use hair scissors to cut your hair.

Did you keep using heat?
if you did it could make your ends worse

Yes. its a bad idea. professional scissors cost a crap load of money and are sharpened every couple of months. if I snip my finger during a cut I don't feel it because our scissors are that sharp and clean. ordinary scissors will break the hair and out stress on it causing more damage.

You need hair scissors. I cut my ends myself all the time. Dull scissors will make everything worse.

Agree Kelly. The prof scissors are from a certain mix of metals and are sharpened from a certain angle. I tried once to cut my ends and got them back soon. I cut my hair about 3-4 timesa year at a salon and excepting only the longest part which was bleached my ends don,t split:-)

You have to have the right scissors or it will wreck your hair. I cut my own hair and so I know this.

In going to guess you cut it dry. That's where you messed up, make sure it's wet next time.

I cut my own hair but I use hair scissors. Next time think about your scissors as an investment. Mine were pretty expensive but it's worthy. Also, when trimming your own hair (which is pretty tricky and I wouldn't recommend anyone to do it) I make sure the hair is in a 90 degree angle with the scissors. That way the split ends can be prevented.
