I have super curly hair and only wash it every 3 days max so ya only twice a week. Curly hair tends to be drier than straight hair and needs all the natural oils it can get. If you don't find your hair to be dirty, oily or smelling funky then I think twice a week is fine. You're really not supposed to wash it every day.

I do it due to oilyness and to prevent a demi permanent hair colour from fading. My hair is relatively healthy.

My hair is like Amanda's. I only wash it like twice a week and i almost never have any grease. I can style it however too because no matter what i do to it, it stays. Only thing is when i straighten it I gotta re do it every day because it'll wave or curl on me again.

I wash my hair everyday, because I have oily hair. My glands don't "over produce" because of my hair washing tendencies, I just like to feel clean and my hair looks best right after I wash it.

Hayley my hair used to be like that. And yes your hair is most likely over producing because you are cleaning it too often.

The same thing happens if you have oily skin and don't moisturize.

You can still shower, it's not like we are 'dirty'. It's called a shower cap.

I pretty much wash my hair everyday. I try to skip a day if I know I won't be going out in public but with my job I need to wash my hair everyday I'm a flight attendant so being in a tube all day with hundreds of people and not washing? I find my hair is worse when I work.

I wash my hair on Mondays only... I use dry shampoo as needed in between and my hair isn't oily or gross... It's very healthy actually

I only wash it once or twice a week. My hair is super dry if I were to wash it everyday it would be a nightmare

Having oily hair/scalp and subsequently washing every day doesn't always cause an over-production of oil though. Case in point: I have had oily hair for as long as i can remember. Years ago I was in the hospital's ICU for close to 3 months. During that time, I only got sponge baths (no showering) and had my hair washed, while in my hosp. bed, once a week. Another 2 months of recovery at home where I would only be able to wash once/week- maybe twice if I was lucky. During this time, my scalp continued to be just as oily. So I think that for some people, oily scalp is normal and part of genetics.

Another point to make is that people wash their face every day. As long as you wash your face with something non-stripping and moisturize afterward, no problems right? So by the same token, one should be able to shampoo hair daily (preferably w/sulfate-free shampoo) and follow with a conditioner with no problems. I'm not saying everyone should wash hair daily, but for those of us whose hair gets dirty and oily quickly, daily washes are important. If I don't wash at least 3-4 times a week, I end up with cystic pimples on my scalp. It's gross.

@pixie, that's very true. But most people use harsh shampoos. But ya I'd you used gentle products and didn't use excessive heat I don't see a problem.

I'm the same as pixie and if you wait too long I itch and my hair falls out more rather than if I keep it clean.
