I've never really tried Korean or French products products. As far as skin care goes the only thing that doesn't make my skin freak out is Dr Bronners magic soap. It's the only thing my skin doesn't hate.

I don't break out when using American products, but I do find the shade choices from Asia fit me much better.

I do quite like Korean skincare. They're quite fanatic about skincare there so I generally feel safe using them. And they work quite well in my climate.
But I can't say whether they are better in comparison to American or French skincare. I feel climate plays a big role in how we react to products too, on top of already knowing your own skin type that is.

I've never had the opportunity to try any Korean brands, but I definitely have a soft spot in my heart for French skincare brands! I think the price has a lot to do with it. Many of the French brands I've tried are a little more pricey but they are superior in quality and performance.

The FDA does not have as strict regulations on cosmetic products as the EU. Thus, products sold in America can contain ingredients that are banned in Europe, not so sure about Asia though! Hope this helps!

I've really only used American and a few Australian products. what are some good, cost-effective French and Korean brands I should get my hands on?

I've encountered hits and misses with both American and imports. A majority of my skincare is American made but on the higher end when it comes to price and I haven't had an issues.

Benefit's skin care line is made in France, so it has much better ingredients and has to pass the French USDA (whatever theirs is called) which as mentioned above is a lot more strict than Americas. I'd try it out and see how your skin reacts. Their products are also made in the same house as Christian Dior, so you're saving lots of $$$!

If my memory serves me correctly I believe Benefit's skincare line is made in Canada and not in France.

I just looked in a industry journal for cosmetic chemists...Benefit skincare goodies are actually produced all over the globe and not just in one spot. I also learned that a few items in my stash aren't just exclusive to one location either. From one line my eye serum was made in the You.S. while a face cream from same company was made in France.

I thought so too Em...I was like whoa. Makes sense though if one thinks about where and how certain ingredients are sourced. Especially when it comes to exotic ingredients. Its just too much expense and work to ship such ingredients to another location. I know my husband will outsource certain products to be made outside of the US because of that reason. I just never really paid any attention till this thread.

Em I wish he did!! lol. He has a cosmetic lab in which people hire him to create various beauty products right down to packaging. His goal is to eventually start his own line but right now he is working on getting his own dermo practice to create a following because right now it just wouldnt make sense to come out the gate with a product line.

I find French brands to be very luxiurious and work very well - have not tried too many Asian brands - but as far as American brands go in general I have better luck with more "natural" brands that are not heavy on the fragrances or synthetic preservatives but that's just me
