lol, what's with the hate with dramatic highlighting & contour? I do it & don't look like "every one else" - When doing this, we still have to work with out own face shapes which means every result will look different than someone elses no matter how hard you try. O.o
Krissy - HD powders show up as powders when using flash. This is pure concealer.

In this case, its not an HD powder with spf, lighting up white under flash photography...or bad contouring...it's intentional! She probably specifically wanted to contour like this- to do an avante garde makeup look and add to her human Barbie persona. She's rocked similar makeup looks in her music videos and album art. Its totally intentional, plus, I think she is inspired by the ganguro look. Her makeup artist is totally legit, and Nicki probably knows a thing or two about makeup, but this was intentionally done. http://outsiderjapan.pbworks.com/f/1300773291/Ganguro%20girl-bright%20orange.jpg Ganguro style makeup.

Mandi - This is just just a case of bad application. I do dramatic highlighting & contouring ALL the time & don't think I look ridiculous. It's all about enhancing features that you like on your face. I honestly don't see ANYTHING wrong with that considering you also wear makeup to enhance your features. I use concealer to highlight my cheekbones just like you use eyeliner to thicken up your lash line. Just because it's not something you're into doesn't necessarily make it okay to call it "crazy" or say that someone like me wont have individuality. Please reconsider how you use your words because it is offensive.
P.S - Those photos you posted of Eva Langoria & Nicole Kidman is not bad highlighting, silica powders that aren't fine reflect heavily when using flash. Especially MUFE HD & that was the case there.

Definitely Ganguro inspired because of the strip going down the nose and all the highlighting around the eyes, upper cheeks and forehead. She is definitely inspired by Japanese street fashion and the ganguro look was popular in Japan around 2000 among young people- all about the California girl tanned skin, light hair and extra girly makeup, clothing and accessories. Check it out on Wikipedia. <3

I'm sorry, but the fact that you genuinely think every one contours their face in order to "look like someone else" is absolutely ridiculous. I, and MANY other girls on this website who talk about, research & love the concealer highlight & contouring effect do it because it's a look that we love. You're assuming things that are VERY personal. I, & others, are trying to look like OTHER people? No. That's extremely rude. We simply love makeup & this specific look.
Highlighting doesn't change the shape of anything? ...what? Highlighting can create the illusion that something is protruding. You know... that's changing the shape. Though I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. O.o
I'm being offensive because I chose to defend a makeup look that many girls here do? You're offended because I'm bringing up the fact that you're throwing personal shots & think we're trying to look like other people? Oh my, sue me.
Even if some people are trying to "cover their natural beauty" - How is that your problem? That gives you the right to judge what other people do? I personally don't like your style of makeup, but I'm not about to go on this rant talking about it & assuming things that you're trying to hide or change about yourself because what you do with your face is none of my business.
Oh God, the picture thing is no big deal. Some one said it's similar & I was simply pointing out what it was for others to read. I'm being overly sensitive? lmao

I'm being a bully.... because you're taking personal shots at girls who do a specific makeup look..... & I'm defending girls who do that makeup look.... and I'm being the bully?
WAIT WHAT. O.o
I quote,
"I am a confident grown WOMAN, unlike yourself "
"How sad it must be to be you."
"You're acting like one of those girls who pick fights with people due to their own insecurity because it makes them feel bigger."
"What a big girl you are."
Not only were you assuming that we want to look like other people, but you're assuming that I'm not confident, that it's "sad to be me" & you're being totally sarcastic about who I am as a person.
...and I'm being the bully?
LMAO, what?! I don't even think I need to point out the irony here. I'm glad you're not responding because... what? XD

the sole purpose of contouring is to add definition to a face not to looook like Kim K or Nicki or anyone for that matter bc contouring has been around since before they were born. I think the wonderful thing about makeup is that you get to do what you want and feel comfy with. Some days I love to contour and some days I can't be bothered with it. The Flukes you see with celebs and makeup are just that FLUKES 99% of the time most of these celebs, Eva, Nicole, Nicki and Kim look amazing... I think some MUA like to play around with new products and don't know how the product might look under certain lighting. And some celebs, let's face it, they like more abnormal looks on their face. I wear a lot of makeup but at the end of the day it's about what works for you ladies... there is no right and wrong, just preference!
Let's all play nice it's the Holidays! :)
