I've recently used henna to cover my increasingly grey areas. While I love that it leaves my grey a beautiful copper color and makes my hair really shiny, I want to lift and color my hair. I want to go with the ombre effect using purples and magenta. My texture is mixed native/african american. My question is..will the henna prevent my desired effect? I know that henna leaves a heavy coating on the hair making processing of any kind difficult. The last application of henna was about a month ago. Any help is greatly appreciated.

No Tea, don't try to lift the color with bleach or anything. It will ruin your hair, trust me.
Henna is permanent and can't be lift. You'll have to wait for your new hair to grow, or color over it, but for this it's better to wait another couple of months.
Or you can try olive oil, as it wil help fade the henna. You'd might want to keep it in your hair over night and repeat several times till you're satisfied.
Olive oil is the only thing that'll fade or even remove henna.

Henna is a pain in the butt to get out! Its not a permanent color, but what it does is coat the hair shaft and lay on top of it instead of penetrating thru like a permanent color does. it stains the hair and bleaching it will only drive the color into the hair making it next to impossible to remove. if this is something that you really want done, then go to a pro. it may run you a hefty bill but would be worth it in the long run.

Another issue is that a lot of commercial henna preparations contain metallic salts, which react unpredictably with hair dyes and bleach. This can cause anything from uncontrollable wild shifts in tone to physical melting of the hair (a particular risk when bleaching).
Many if not most salons won't do any sort of color work over hair that has had henna coloring just as a precaution. Your best bet is to wait until it grows out.
