Is this really true about the BHA? I have the Paula's choice BHA exfoliant. I didn't know it could cause cancer...is that true?

I've heard it can cause cancer
But I reckon it only causes cancer if there's an excessive amount of it
I think your exfoliant is ok to use
But if you're truly concerned ask a pro

I definitely agree with Qwaserght. A lot of things can cause cancer and it's generally due to an excess amount of said thing

Well they did say "& severe skin irritations" which is really the extent if some of the things listed such as fragrances and dyes. BHA is a product used VERY OFTEN in food such as potato chips and products. It is used in food as a preservative and can act as a fat compound. They say it "can cause cancer" becayse thats the extent of what they know at the moment. They tested it on rats and it actually did cause extensive amounts of cancer in the forestomach of the rat. But, they don't have proof of BHA causing cancer in humans because the forestomach isnt even an organ that humans have. On the other hand, large amounts of BHA has caused some digestive problems.
So in short, use your exfoliant in moderation because too much of anything can cause negative effects. And I wouldnt necessarily repurchase that product and I wouldnt jump towards products with that ingredient either. Definately avoid it, but don't let the fear of it make you paranoid.

They're not talking about BETA HYDROXY ACID. There's another BHA that is a preservative. Its a really long chemical word/s. Also, FRAGRANCE is such a general term. Natural flower extracts & essential oils can be used for fragrances. Sounds a little squirrely to me.

I'd say just play it safe and go with natural products.

I think if that Twitter claim was true, we'd all have cancer by now.

Honestly, just about everything in the beauty world is claimed as "can cause cancer". Ita ridiculous because a lot of them are not even true!
