A good sunscreen will have both UVA and UVB protection I use neutrogena ultra sheer dry touch. I would get an SPF of at least 30 because you are never really getting what it says on the label, you get about half according to my dermatologist. I don't know much about tanning beds because I try to keep my skin as fair as possible but just be careful in them my cousins embrace their jersey roots and are very orange.

Stay out of the tanning beds! Even with sunscreen you are dosing yourself with ridiculous amounts of radiation. There is absolutely NO reason to put your health at risk, especially since there are fake tans out there that give great results.
Skin cancer is not a joke, it is just as serious as any cancer that starts inside your body. Using a tanning bed is just plain bad.
