I recently notice that prices on some of my favorite lines have increased in price. NARS blushes that were most recently $29 bucks at Sephora have gone up a $1. Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencils are now $20 ( versus $19 from last year) and the new trend is to reduce quantity but not reduce price ( Tarte Cheek Stains come to mind). Have any of you beauties noticed this as well and if so what are your thoughts?

I also noticed Nyx prices at target went up as well.I must say that the cosmetic industry is booming more then ever but then so do the prices ugh.

I don"t think it has anything to do with the increase on minimum wage as most of the cosmetics sold in the United States is actually made overseas or up north ( Canada).

At some point earlier last year Tarte was actually on the selling block to a big corporate entity and I stopped following it because I grew bored of trying to keep up with the back and forth discussions of it but I think they are seriously back in the running because they are doing all the things that companies do to make themselves more desirable to potential buyers ( I.e. cut corners but increase price, introduce a multitude of products all at once).

It sure does stink Cali. Especially when they decrease the amount of product in a container but not lower the price. Pass the savings on to the customer. Its crazy how much it cost to mass produce one item within a cosmetic line. Most of the cost comes from the packaging. Its insane.

Isn't that the the truth? Everything has gone up. I work in retail and deal with it first hand. It's crazy.

@Naomi...don't mention food!! I haven't gone hunting in a few years but I'm seriously considering it after I spent $5.99 for a pound of turkey meat that used to be $3.99. Target for makeup...I don't go there anymore for it after I discovered Bed Bath & Beyond with a cosmetics department. I can use manufacture coupons there plus their in-store 20% off coupon. Their makeup is cheaper than Target.

Count your blessings. A MAC lipstick in Australia is $36 and when you convert USD to AUD that's still more. Rip offs grrrrrr lol.

@Bronwyn...now that right there is insane. I do a quarterly exhange with another beauty junkie who lives out there ( I send her stuff that is outrageously expensive in AU and she sends me stuff that is locally made that is hard for me to get here in the states) and its crazy how stuff is priced in your country. :/

@Shelley it's absolutely ridiculous! For the last 6 months I have been looking online here in Australia at what I've been wanting to order and then use a mail forwarding service and order from there. It's normally always a biggish order as the postage is a little expensive but the most I have saved is $400. A order I did from MAC there was $780 and here I think it was going to be just over $1000 so that's me when it come to cosmetics now.

It's so true it's because they no women are going to get there beauty on no matter what the same with how much fake hair cost omg ridiculous ,and we all have to eat so you no food is going to keep on rising that's why I love a good old coupon lol.

The beauty industry only increases as times get tough too. It's the last bit of luxury women can afford and will cling to, even during WWII there were record sales of lipstick.

Sadly, most of these companies are also paying zero or close to zero in taxes, if you wasn't to see something interesting go online to Yahoo or MSN finance and look at the quarterly and yearly earnings statements from your favorite cosmetics companies, for instance Prestige cosmetics which has a number of popular brands under their name. In addition most of the highest level executives at these corporations salary and bonus packages are reported and they pay very little tax on their fringe benefits which make up 90% of their compensation. It is truly sad watching the export of jobs from the US which was done under the guise that prices would be better for consumers, but all it has done has increased profit margins for the corporations, caused a loss of American jobs, and the only people that benefited are the heaviest hitters in the investment markets.
Feb 16, 2014
Shelley W.
Oh yes Kelly! And the fact that folks incomes haven't risen alongside the rate of inflation is another kicker.
Feb 16, 2014
Jane C.
The main reason for the rise in price are 1.Fuel prices and 2. Greed.
Feb 16, 2014
Kelly H.
Shelley, excellent point. It's really just sad, the division between income classes grows every day with more and more people/families falling below the poverty line. And Jane, there is a larger stockpile of oil then has ever existed in history so even the fuel process are being artificially inflated by greed.

Very good point ladies.
wages are NOT going up AT ALL!.
lili, the dollar tree is making their packages smaller. I've noticed mostly in cleaning products and bathroom goods, alcohol, Vaseline, Epson salt. tiny packages now. smh.

CPT- Lili R.
Thats true the cleaning products are small now last time I went it was so small I was surprised, they just want to make the poor poorer thats sad.
