I've never tried fake tanning, is it safe to go just once in a while? Or is it dangerous to go only a few times?

I've always been told it's dangerous, so I wouldn't ever do it anyway. However I don't know whether it's dangerous if it's only once in a while... Sorry I haven't really been much help x

Honestly, I'm not sure. I fake tan every so often and I do find it damaging to my skin. But long exposure to heat and you've can be hurtful. Best to do it in small moderation and get check ups with a dermatologist!

1 minute in a tanning booth/bed = 8 hours in the sun.

Of course they are. They use UV rays to tan your skin. Just like the sun. I suggest getting a self tanner! Way better, I mean worlds better for your skin!!

Tanning beds have been proven to increase the risk of skin cancer! Of course it is dangerous - you should not do it at all!

And remember to wear sunscreen everyday to decrease your risk of skin cancer!

It is very dangerous. I'm sure every once in a while wouldn't hurt, but I don't suggest it. Self tanner is much better, you should give it a try. :)

It is damaging. I used to tan in beds all the time and I have fair skin.. It would irritate it and one time I even got a sun rash I don't tan anymore in beds I use Jergens tanning lotion and tan in the sun when it's summer and that gives me good enough color alone. I wouldn't do it if you haven't started to already it's something I regret

It depends on your skin type. some people are too pale or their skin is very hard to tan (its a certain chrmical in your skin I forget what its called) which can then lead to skin cancer if you use tanning beds. it can also cause your skin to look older and almost leathery. I recommend using a tanning lotion instead or go out in the sun but always wear a strong sunscreen. I personally like to wear sunscreen outside then put coconut oil on my body and sit outside for about 10 minutes and it gives me a beautiful tan.

Shauna s. just because someone is darker skinned and has more melanin does not mean they don't have a risk of getting skin cancer. And I take offense to you saying some people are "too pale".
As for tanning beds they're extremely dangerous. Always use SPF in the sun but never use a tanning bad. Besides the risk of skin cancer there are a lot of germs on the beds because they generally aren't cleaned properly and many people develop skin diseases.

Tanning beds are ALWAYS dangerous. Would you walk into a nuclear reactor once in a while, because you didn't happen to get radiation sickness the first time? Tanning beds are exactly the same thing. You are exposing your entire body to radiation.
Think about that. You are exposing your ENTIRE body to RADIATION. Radiation that alters cells and causes cancer. Radiation that breaks down cell structure and causes wrinkles and skin hardening (that leathery look). Radiation that causes dark spots, lesions, and hyperpigmentation.
Even the word tanning means "to turn a hide into leather." Why do women put their health at risk to look like that?
If you want to get darker skin for whatever reason, use a self tanner. There are plenty on the market that achieve excellent results. Take it from someone who has had skin cancer twice, and now has to undergo CAT body scans every couple of months to make sure it hasn't returned and metastasized. Skin cancer is as serious as any cancer that originates within the body. Don't risk your health for vanity.

I would say no mostly because of radiation which can cause all kinds of super bad stuff! plus the sun is a great way to tan even a spray tan is better (although sun tanning is free) you should never put harmful stuff on your skin missy!! now I'm going to have to go all grandmother on you :) but really just go out side plus tanning bed tans just look fake!! and I don't want you to have skin or health problems!!? well thats all :D.

Tanning in the sun is almost as bad as a tanning bed, Ada. A natural tan is actually damage-- it is your skin reacting to being injured by ultraviolet radiation. Sun exposure can cause skin cancer; that's how I got mine. The only safe tan is a fake tan. Limit your exposure to the sun: always wear high SPF sunscreen (even in bad weather), wear sunglasses and a hat, and reapply your sunscreen throughout the day.
Before someone says it (because I know they will): you absorb enough UV just sitting inside your house near a window to properly absorb vitamin D and calcium. Unless you have an extreme health disorder, there is zero need for sun exposure outside to remain healthy.
