I suggest you look at the Building Your Makeup Kit article in the editorial section. it's EXTREMELY informative & covers almost every aspect of makeup; cases, brushes, what different makeup is important to have in your kit.
as for your portfolio, make sure you show a wide range of looks. so like, a natural look, a dramatic look, a smokey eye, maybe a cut crease, gradient, etc.

I've Looked &Studied Soooo Many Videos On YouTube There So Helpful, I Guess I'm Just Stuck On What Foundation To Purchase.. The Foundation That I've Noticed Alot Of Makeup Artist Having Is The Makeup Forever HD Foundation.. So I'm Kinda Leaning Towards That One &The Makeup Forever Matte Velvet Which Is My Favorite.. I Just Wanna Make The Smartest Purchase Because iKnow It's ALOT To Invest In

Loike kyra said look in the editorial here for the building your own kit artical, I wouldnt suggest you tube cuz there is a lot of misleading information, read books that would be your best bet, you could ask jackie and alma suggestions for books they have tones of good recommendations.

Kryolan has a good foundation palette and there's a variety of colors I use that on clients it works great.
