So I went to Tyler, TX today to the closest Ulta that we have in East Texas. For me, that is an hour drive. I live in a remote little town with about 1300 people in it. That being said, this was a LONG drive for me, and one that had to be well planned.
I had asked my mom the night before if she would like to go with me, and she said that it really depended on how she felt, and how the weather was (forecast showing bad weather projections for our area at the time). She was supposed to go with me to pick up some home ware items for the upcoming visit from my boyfriend this month who is flying up from Florida to meet my parents for the first time. (Long story...) We had planned to go to Ross, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Ulta to get a few things, get my brows done, and pick up a new neutral eye palette since my precious Too Faced Natural Eye Palette has hit pan in a very hard way.
During the passing from night to morning, it was pretty apparent that my mom would not be making this trip with me. She had stayed up late after being out at a meeting the day prior, so I knew she was tired. That was the first excuse I heard. Then the big one: THE WEATHER!! OMG! I almost lost it with her on that one. She was going on and on about not thinking it would be a good idea to go out with the weather going to do what it is forecast to do. Apparently, in her words that is...HEAVY R-A-I-N. psssshhhh...I have dealt with that before!! I rolled my eyes, said fine and decided to go by myself all the while knowing that a big freeze was ALSO projected to coming on. But I thought to myself, "I drove out in it the last time it was supposed to be bad, and it was a joke."
I got ready after a long shower, said "goodbye and I love you," to my folks, and heard the "be careful" concerns before getting into my car to tear out of Dodge.
The drive there was fine. The roads were wet, but easy to manage. I made it to Ross, and got the things I needed/wanted, and headed out to Ulta. Once there, I picked up my Bareminerals Matte Foundation in Light, and scored the store for a replacement Too Faced Natural Eye Palette. Low-and-Behold...they were gone! UGH!! I was so upset. :( So of course I saw the UD Naked 3, and had been wanting it for like EVER! I called my sister, my boyfriend, my dad...everyone to reconcile spending the money for the palette since I had drove all the way to pick up the other palette and was about to leave empty handed. Normally, I would have been okay with just waiting for the next shipment to come in and going back, but I was just so hell bent on getting one today that I broke and got it. (Also didn't help that I couldn't get my eyebrows done today since the only girl available to do them was not there. So I justified...) I mean what else was I going to spend SOME of my income tax returns on that would be FOR ME??!! LOL
I got up to checkout, and I paid for my items with my heart racing. Most expensive single item I've bought from Ulta in forever. About that time, I was talking to my dad and he was saying that it was coming a flood in my town, and wanted to know if it had hit there. Of course when he asked, it hadn't BUT as soon as I hang up...WHOOSH!! Literally! I didn't think much of it cuz it was ONLY rain right??
I get in my car, and I head home. I get about halfway down the single lane road, and it starts sleeting. Crud...I turn my windshield wipers on full blast. Not too bad now. Then I get about a mile up the way, and the road is COVERED with ice, sleet, and snow. OH NO!! My car begins to struggle against the ice. I slow down to about 30, and carefully watch the tail lights in front of me as I'm driving to my next turn. I get to the interstate safely, and as I'm going over the overpass I'm noticing that this is not going to be a safe drive home. My brakes though working, are not helping me as I'm literally sliding down past the stop signs. Luckily, no one was there in front of me to be hit. I follow the road home with no tail lights to keep me guided.
I get about halfway down the road up to the drop down of the road, and my car begins to lose traction and hydroplane left and right. It begins to slide to the right propelling me into the other lane!! I begin crying, screaming, praying, and gripping the wheel as steady as I can to keep from slamming into the guard rails. All the while, my boyfriend is on speaker phone with me as a precautionary measure to call 911 in the event that I was unable to. I was mortified!! I manage to keep it steady and get back in my lane, and go on to my town. Almost two blocks from home my car decides to do it again, but this time less severe so I know how to react. I grab the wheel and hold it as steady as I can, as my car slides to a stop. I sit there for a few seconds breathing deeply, and begin to ease on the gas with my other foot on the brake the whole time lightly mashing it as needed. I turn off home and start crying as I pull in.
As soon as I make it through the door, I tell my parents that I should have listened to them about the weather, and NEVER go out in it. Lesson learned! Also, as much as I wanted the Naked 3 in the past...it just didn't seem to be worth me almost dying to get it. Though of course it wasn't the sole purpose for my trip. It just makes it more entertaining to say...hahahaha.
Anyways, I'm alive and safely home with my Naked 3 to play with. (May take a few days...out of spite) But just let this be a reminder to any other rebellious children, that your parents only tell you things because they love you and care about your safety. Pay close attention to the weather in your area, and if you think it's not worth it...it's not worth it!! I don't care if you're going to be getting 1,000 pounds of sapphires to make the trip, it's not worth your life!
Be safe, Be smart, OBEY YOUR PARENTS' WISHES!!

Thanks lol sometimes I get carried away with writing :D Yeah I've flipped a truck before out on our roads. The drop offs out here make it twice the more dangerous. I was getting flashbacks.

Glad you are okay! Just for future reference, when you are skidding turn INTO the skid to fix your trajectory, and do not apply the brakes.

Thanks. I thought that was what I was supposed to do, but in the time of panic I just try to keep the wheel steady. I'll remember that next time!

Yeah it is hard to remember while it is actually happening. Be careful out there!
