Beautylish Pet Peeves

Ahh! Okay! LOL I did the whole facepalm thing when I thought that I did my own pet peeve. LOL

Copy/paste from another website without quoting the source...ugh. It makes me a little crazy. And I get a little annoyed when a million topics are started on the same subject - I'm OCD when it comes to clutter!!!

I am also all for promoting blogs/youtubes but I think there is a time and place. For example, if you have a video that relates to a forum and you really think it will help someone out by all means post it! But if you are just posting a random video that doesn't have to do with the topic being discussed at alll that is a little frustrating to me especially when there are people who genuinely want to discuss the forum topic!

PEOPLE BEGGING FOR FREE MAKEUP... blaming a down economy and they can't afford it.

- Uh, I work for my makeup. I save, budget and plan for things I want. What makes YOU any more entitled to free makeup than me or any one of us on this forum??? If you REALLY wanted something in life, ANYTHING, you would make it happen. If one of my parents needed medical attention, I would work to get it done. If I wanted a bigger income - I would go to school, network, relocate or train to make it happen. You are in control of your own destiny, and if you work smart, you are more than capable of attaining your own makeup. If I feel I want to splurge on something, I'll limit my driving and eating out to get it the following paycheck.

STOP blaming it on a bad economy! It's been like that since 9/11, and quite frankly, I'm sick of hearing about it... it's that exact attitude that keeps us in a recession - when people aren't motivated to make a change for themselves and their surroundings.

If you really wanted to ask for free makeup, there are proper avenues that can help you attain that. Find a woman's shelter or charity willing to help those in need... but remember, you have to QUALIFY for those kind of things. A need is much more important than a want... and a want is not worth begging for. I would rather give my makeup to a woman's shelter that helps get victims of domestic violence back on their feet and work on their self-esteem than a lowly beggar that just wants it for kicks.

Please don't start RAOK posts [random acts of kindness] and take advantage of people.

*end rant*

Ok, make that a 3rd pet peeve because I TOTALLY agree with Soma! Who wouldn't love to get free makeup? That's why I enter contests and I win something fantastic and if I don't there's always another contest. Plus if I REALLY want something I'll go hit up my Sephora and ask for a sample or hit up Macy's and ask for samples. Plus many drugstore brands you can get for free or near after using coupons on sales prices. There are so many avenues to get free stuff without resulting to cyber begging.

I get tons of free products from Facebook by liking a company's page then filling out a form for free samples. I have tons of shampoo/conditioner packets and lotion packets. Right now on my desk I have free lotion that Nivea that I obtained from their Facebook. I have shampoo/condition from Garnice. I received free blush from Milani and am waiting for the free lipgloss I won from their Facebook. I received free mascara from Lancome through their website and will be picking up free lotion from Bath & Body Works through my daughter's Seventeen magazine. Like I said SOOOOO many avenues to get free stuff.

I 100000000% agree with Soma. I'm a review girl, I post a lot of reviews. On a different beauty site, whenever I would post a negative review on a product, I used to get SO many messages asking me if I could send them that product for free.

-----UHHHH, WHAT? No------

Somebody actually even had the guts to ask me if I'd send them my Urban Decay Naked Pallet for FREE just because I said I don't find any use for it in my collection.
I payed for that with my own MONEY. It's either going back to the store or into my collection for those "just in case" products.

It's rude & very selfish.

^Hahaha... Andrea, I stalk reviews on MUA for unhappy reviewers to swap with. It's the best way I've found to get one going quickly because they're so upset with it, they want it out of sight and out of mind.

I HAVE had people RUDELY message me because I did not share their interest in a certain product or place. I used to be VERY smitten with review sites like Yelp and MUA because I love finding/trying new things... until I had a few people actually HARASS me for not liking a thing or place! People forget a review site's main purpose is to entitle you to an opinion... which should help someone in making a decision about something. It's okay to say you don't like something if it helps someone else save their money and time!

All I do is politely message them back with, "What you just said to me did not make me any more inclined to like whatever the heck it was you were talking about. Have a nice day."

OH, AND...

I wish the Beautylish text boxes had spellcheck. I hate making spelling errors, and I'm ALWAYS editing my posts to make sure they sound as good as I can get it to be.

^Requests for swaps are 100% fine though, but when somebody asks me to send them a $50 product for free?! Girl is crazy. lol Most don't even offer to pay for shipping either. XD

Oh man, I see that A LOT on YouTube where sombody will get attacked for not liking a product. Especially with ELF. Hardcore ELF fans don't play around. lol Sombody wont like a product & instead of being constructive & saying "why not try & use it with this?" or "have you tried doing THIS to it?" they'll go on this insane rant saying how materialistic, snobby, or picky they are for not liking ELF. It's so silly. XD

^Hahahahah!!! OMG, that's exactly what it is! You're too SNOBBISH if you can't enjoy what I enjoy! What if I have a discerning palette and certain standards I uphold things to? That makes me a snob??? No, that means I have certain expectations for the things I adorn my life with to be. If that makes me a snob, so be it. I can't help that I am willing to wait for quality VS. quantity, but that doesn't mean it has to cost an arm and a leg.  =)

LOL ELF is not that great. It's not bad but it's definitely not a line to defend. lol

Yasmin, I agree! ELF has a couple products that are good but there are so many other "cheaper" products out there that are great quality.

lol, i totally agree with the people being so rude! and with the people asking for free makeup! this one girl started a topic and was like, hey how can i get free full size makeup? like, sorry, you have to pay for your makeup like everyone else does, or find something by your own means! haha.

I agree with Soma! If you're struggling money-wise I doubt buying makeup should be your main focus. I've gotten asked quite a lot (especially on Youtube!!) for free makeup and there's always a sob story that goes along with it.

Also people attack people for using or liking high end makeup... even people using MAC bothers them. Just because you dislike something or say you can't afford to buy it means I can't buy it and I can't use it? I don't think so! People get way too personal when it comes to other people's personal preferences.

I don't mean to be rude by saying this, but I'm so sick of hearing about how a particular person is struggling "due to the economy." People really need to stop using that as a crutch for being extremely lazy. Soma is definitely right, we've been in an economic dump for over 10 years now and it's not changing for a very long time.

I can't say I have a pet peeve on Beautylish really. But if I do, I'm sure I'll be back on here again! lol.

one of my pet peevs is when People post Pic and they are clearly from the web or a magazine and not theirs. If I wanted am editorial photo spread for inspiration I would go pick up Vogue magazine. I want to see what ladys like myself are wearing/ coming up with. And to top it off they Don't list a source of the photo or give the owner of the photo credit. I guess it's the artist in me and the facet that it was drilled in to me not to plagiarizer others works.

Wow, there's some great suggestions in this thread! The team has been thinking about many of the issues mentioned here esp the "read my blog" or "sub my channel" problem. We want Beautylish to be a place to discover bloggers, gurus or valuable information on topic but it does take away when people are too self promotional.

There are a few things we're working on including community etiquette guidelines to help provide new users with more direction of how to be a good community member. We also have new features to help with things like spellcheck, replies and more.

Thanks for the great feedback and helping make Beautylish a better place! If you ever want to get in touch directly you can always ping myself or Jasmine anytime.
