By the Hour? Or By Person?

If you free lance how do you charge and how much? DO you charge by the hour or by person?

I charge per person.:) But if I'm at a wedding or something and the bride wants me to stay for touch ups, I charge the flat rate for her makeup, plus hourly for the amount of time she wants me around at her wedding or reception for touch ups.:)

thanks! :)

It's usually per person, unless they employ you by the full day or more. Or... you can always do a base for the original makeup and then charge by the hour for any following services or touch ups.  =)

for the most part, it's per person. with photo shoots, it's usually by the hour because it's far more labor-intensive than a regular job.

I think it should be per person as well

Deffinitly per person. Imagine they are telling you that you have to do 3 people in 1 hour! All the products you would use.

ok so i think this is kind of a stacked question...if you are looking to really get into the makeup industry then NEVER charge by person/hour/look anything like that...its always going to be a half day(4 hours and below) or full day rate( anything above 4 hours). If you are wanting to be a makeup artist that occasionally does photoshoots or weddings but this is not going to be your career then i personally dont see the problem with charging by person. There are MUAs that think this is a horrendous idea and hate that people do this but me personally I dont care and dont think that people should hate on how you make your money! But the industry standard is charging by half or full day rates. And in the long run it will be more profitable to charge this way. If you charge by person and it takes you 5 hours then your def missing out on money. If you are charging my the hour the client has a tendency to rush you so that they will not have to pay for any additional hours. I personally HATE to be rushed. Hopefully this helps!
