This was my first month with BirchBox... My favorite thing was probably the Philosophy face wash. I got the eyebrow pencil which I haven't seen many people get.

Jesse, I got the brow pencil as well. How did you like it? I want to use it a few more times before forming an opinion because I have black hair and it is SUPER hard to find a brow pencil that works 100% to my picky liking ;)

DJ, I have very dark brows too. I like it ok, but eyebrow pencil isn't something I use that often b/c I have pretty thick brows. I was pretty impressed with how well it blended into my brows and it seemed to have staying power (about 6-8 hrs). If you layer it just a little it darkens up nicely. I will be keeping it, but I don't really use anything on my eyebrows except tweezers so for me I probably would have preferred something else. Also, that little almond bar thing, I only got half of one! The package was all sealed but only half a bar was there. So weird!

Wow, that's weird! Did you contact birchbox?

I'm half-asian and definitely have more sparse eyebrows so I need to fill them in a bit. The iffy part for me with the pencil is that when you have jet black brows there's no red to them so any red in the pencil shows through. I'm going to try it a few times and see how I feel in different lighting. I'd hate to love it using my daylight bulb then go somewhere else and be like--ummmm what???? haha

Nah, I didn't worry about the bar. If it had been a beauty product I would have cared. But it was just a random almond bar. :)

I went and swatched my pencil on my arm after you mentioned the red tones. The color I was sent is universal taupe and it goes on khaki and then when I color over a little it gets to a rich dark brown, but not a black. For sure try it out in multiple lights before you run all over town with awkward brows! It works pretty well with my brow color but they're dark brown and not black.

Now that you have had your BB a few days what was your favorite product this month? I looked at what you got on your blog and you got 2 things I didn't get:
Joya FvsS Composition No. 1 Parfum
Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse multi-usage dry oil

I just got Korres shower gel instead of those 2 things. I am actually kind of annoyed now! First I just get half an almond bar, and now I get one less product too!

Sounds like you got the same box as me, minus the half almond bar... I have the opposite problem with the eyebrow pencil. I'm very very blonde, so any pencil usually looks really artificial. I'm going to keep trying it to see if I can adjust now.
I really wanted the dry oil. Boo.

@Jesse I tend to get an extra product in my boxes because back when I first signed up they had an option to get an extra random sample if there were extras. I just got a second subscription for my mom and that option was no longer there, so I'm guessing that may be why!

My mom got a very different box from me. I should start doing a post for hers, too haha. She got:

The almond bar
Philosophy face wash
Korres shower gel
Zoya polish
And maybe one more thing?

It's funny, I'm still on the fence with the pencil. I feel like you can tell it's brown and not super, super dark brown under my brows... I usually mix my own color since it's hard to find a good match. I actually did a blog post on it once haha.

@Allison Does it work if you do it super lightly? I swear, eyebrows are the strangest things!

Did anyone like the Redken Shine Flash? I thought it smelled bad, and it didn't make my hair anymore shiny. I just don't think it delivered.

I loved the Redken Shine Flash and it made my daughter's hair shiny but the drawback was that it caused her to lose all her curls at pageant last night. Luckily they had hairdressers back stage to fix her hair over the night but it was annoying that the fantastic hair style she had didn't hold with the shine spray in her hair despite having a ton of hair spray (extra hold) in her hair.

(For those curious, she placed 4th runner up due to a major malfunction with her saxophone. She played well but something happened to the sax itself that it made zero sound not even a squeek on the A note so every time she had to play an A note no sound. She could have won or placed 1st if it weren't for that one little item.)

@Jesse I haven't tried the Redken Shine Flash yet. I should though! I'm used to shine serums not sprays so I'm definitely interested to see how it works.
