I think the only time MAC brushes come in sets is around the holidays. Some other good brands are EcoTools, the Elf Studio line, Crown Brushes are good too. Some Sigma Brushes are good too.

The elf studio line is really good and only the $1 eye brushes are good. The $1 face brushes are not good at all but the eye ones are a lot better :D

Yeah, MAC only offers sets around the holidays, but the quality/size is not the same as the individual brushes. I believe the holidays are mass produced whereas the individual brushes are hand made.
For good brushes at a fraction of the cost of MAC brushes, I would look into Crown and Sigma brushes. Good deals!

yes MAC offer brush sets but they are only sold during the holidays. they are really good prices too, so when you get a chance definetely grab yourself a set. they are full size quality brushes but with just a shorter handle.

Alternatives that I own:
* Sigma (generally, I think I prefer their face brushes to the eye brushes)
* e.l.f. (Studio collection)
* Sonia Kashuk (available at Target)
* EcoTools
Alternatives I don't own:
* Royal & Langnickel (they're reasonably priced, too)
* Crown Brush (some of these are also available, rebranded (obviously), from Coastal Scents and the store on makeupgeek.com)
* Hakuhodo (be warned that some of them are VERY expensive)
* Cozzette (all synthetic bristles, and they just look absolutely stunning with the purple handles, IMO)

MAC sells brush sets, but they're machine cut VS. their full-sized brushes that are hand-cut. I dislike the holiday sets because they're scratchier, and they do not hold their shape as well... but some are just as good as the full-sized.
I agree w/ all that Shelly T. listed above that she's tried. I also have Hakuhodo and Louise Young brushes, and they are EXCELLENT - but you have to remember they are premium brand brushes, so they're considered "investments".

I love my Sigma brushes, Sonia Kashuk & Crown are on my list to try. I haaaaate my ELF brushes but they're also old and not the studio version. Meh.
