WARNING
The dark chocolate bar sent out by Eco-Emi from Sweet Riot has a "BEST USED BY" date that may have expired. My own box came today and I just checked the wrapped, AFTER my children consumed the chocolate, and saw that what I got the "BEST USED BY" date was on 11/16/11!
Frankly I'm disgusted by Eco-Emi AND Sweet Riot for sending out products "old" products. While the chocolate may not be spoiled the fact is that they sent out old products that they wanted to get rid of. Eat at your own risk.

Whoa ... that's so horrible on their part! Eco-Emi really never appealed to me because the products were too scattered in my opinion, but now I'm really glad I didn't sign up haha. Yikes! Buyer beware!

I think it'll be okay. It's not like it was months after the expiration date. There are even stores that only sell foods that are past the "best used by" date.

The chocolate is not spoiled, Erica, it's the fact they sent out a food product that was near it's "best used by" which most stores - least in my area - they pull food from the shelves before that point. Why pay $15 on products that are expiring or near expiring? I paid for new products and granted with food you'll never get fresh products unless you're right at the assembly line but still at least at a store I have the choice to buy something or not. In Eco-Emi's case either Christine or Sweet Riot is at fault for dumping stuff they can't normally sell to consumers onto unsuspecting people and that's where I have a problem.

@Yasmin I would personally be ticked if Birchbox sent out expired items, whether or not they were rancid. You assume that if you're paying for a sample service they're sending out samples so you can try hot products, not to get rid of overstock I guess. Not well played on someone's part :(

That's exactly how I feel DJ. I don't know is at fault - Christine at Eco-Emi for not checking first (or maybe she did know) or Sweet Riot for dumping old product on unsuspecting consumers who would most likely not have known if someone didn't notice it in the first place and contact Christine at Eco-Emi.
If I had not canceled my box after October's shipping fiasco I definitely would have after this one. I refuse to spend $15 each month on a company I can't trust. The $60 I spent on four boxes I could have bought Urban Decay's 15th Anniversary or Book of Shadows 4 and have money to spare.

As the founder and CEO of sweetriot, I wanted to personally respond to the discussion around our product. The bars are stamped with a "best by" date of 11/16/11 but we guarantee their continued quality and freshness, as this date is our internal coding method for keeping our inventory moving within a specific period of time. This product is not expired. For those who have purchased our product (on www.sweetriot.com) and are not 100% satsified, we will refund your order including shipping. We want you to always be a happy rioter customer! We firmly stand behind our quality and products. Riot on!

Regardless if the product is still good or not the point is that old product was dumped on customers through Eco-Emi. Was it the fault of Eco-Emi or Sweet Riot? I don't know but I do know that I don't appreciate companies that dump old products on unsuspecting customers. I remember one subscription service that costs like $30 a month and it turns out they send out old cosmetic products. Nothing maybe wrong with the products but the point is it was deceptive.

sweetriot always operates in a very transparent manner. Our retailers, partners and online customers are aware of our 'best buy dates' on all of our products. Our partners then choose how to manage the inventory for their own business. It is never our intention to "dump" product or to be deceptive. The bars are a very popular item on our website and as mentioned previously the best buy date is our internal coding method for keeping our inventory moving within a specific period of time. This product is not expired and we continue to stand behind the quality and freshness of this product. We are a small growing women-owned business and truly care about each rioter's opinions so thank you for your feedback.
Riot on!

@Sarah I always find it pretty impersonal and unprofessional when company reps hop on here and defend a company or product against a community member (who's merely sharing her experience) rather than simply providing great customer service and contacting them directly on their beautylish pages so you can ask for an email to address the concerns in private. You obviously weren't actively involved in this community beforehand, this really isn't the place for this. Do you regularly send out products that have already passed their "internal coding method" date? I'm not sure this response is going to sway anyone in your direction.

Anytime I purchase any kind of food I always check to see if there is an expiration date on the package and if there is one I will not purchase the product if the date is within a certain amount of days of me purchasing it. So for me I would be upset as well because many of us take expiration dates to heart, I know I do.
