I am only 14 but I volunteered as a makeup artist at my local Opera House. I am VERY new to this, I love makeup but I need some ideas. The upcoming play is "Return to the Forbidden Planet." and the director wants bright/futuristic makeup designs. Please give me some ideas, and keep them simple please, I don't want to try anything too hard. Thank you very much! --Hannah Marie(:

If the alien characters have human physical qualities, check out the first few episodes of Roswell... Katherine Heigl had cute eye looks and vinyl cat suits during their kitschy alien-events they attended... (I loved that show in hs!) it also reminded me how some minor makeup made up alien races in the series Star Trek. Think Jerry Ryan's character as "Seven of Nine" - simple prosthetic with lots of tutorials on instructables.com or vid tutorials on Indymoguls BFX YouTube channel.
If its geared more in the direction of SFX, any sci-fi movie should have loads of inspiration photos to help. Good luck, and congrats on landing the gig!

This is the best quality photo I could find, sadly:

If u can watch it on Netflix, you would see its a silver eye with glitter and a very avant garde cat eye. Both characters utilize the catsuit for a futuristic feel with human characteristics.

Just be creative! Mess around with lots of colors and techniques and even clay! Yes, you heard me, clay. Clay does freaking wonders if you use it right. If you want to create odd angles or nasty boils or weird things like that, clay is amazing. If that seems too hard, find a cotton ball, and cover it in clay (not the backside), and attatch it to the face with a heavy duty face glue for a boil. With makeup, it's best to use products wet, that way you get more pigmentation out of them. AND ALWAYS REMEMBER TO USE A PRIMER! If you don't use a primer, the make up will fade super fast. And since the makeup will be quite eccentric, you want it to be easy to touch up. Hope I helped? Probably not as much as Soma, but I tried. :P

That makes me happy! haha I'm just freelance, but I've tried lots of wacky things. I wouldn't do anything crazy unless you're comfortable with it though.

futurist is silver, white, frosty and shiney. Research some photos of futuristic makeup to get some ideas and decide what you think you're capable of doing. Create face charts to help you map out your looks. I'll put a link below on how to make and create your own face charts. Good luck.

my idea of futuristic tends to lean toward the Apple mentality, simple, clean, modern and serves its purpose. A silvery green highlight for alien, an extended cateye, or squared-out color block of eyes or eyebrows. Blue or purple lips.
