hair dye advice?

i really want to dye my hair a bright or pastel color. however, my hair is really dark, so i would have to bleach it, and i don't want to have to bleach my whole head. my hair is really short on the sides and longer & curly on top, so dip dying or streaks would look kind of odd. any advice for ways i can incorporate some color without dying my whole head?
