Protein Treatment Help?

As a reward for getting a raise, I recently bought myself Aphogee's Protein Treatment (and the balancing treatment that goes with it). My hair isn't very damaged because I usually just let it air dry and go, but I'm planning on dying my hair totally blue over the summer and I wanted to get it in shape to be dyed healthily.

I've tried it twice this past week and I'm having some serious trouble. I'm a bit of a hair n00b and I'm just not sure I'm doing it right. The product gets jammy and dries so quickly, I can't spread it evenly through my hair at all. After I wash it out, my hair feels gunky and heavy the next couple days.

What I've done is pat/rub some product into my hair as quickly as possible, then I sit around with a towel around my neck and blow dry it on high heat/low power for about 30 minutes. After gently rinsing it out, I let the moisturizer sit in for a few minutes and then rinse that out.

Is there something I should be doing differently? Or is there something I'm totally missing? This is the best I could figure out from the instructions on the bottle.

Did you shake the protein treatment before using it? And did you wash your hair prior to using the treatment? I wouldn't try to use the treatment again, as it is made to use only every 6 weeks. However, if you do want to try it again after 6 weeks, you need to make sure you wash your hair first, then shake the product before putting it in your hair. You need to fully saturate your hair with the protein, which should still be damp from washing. Then you comb it through with a wide tooth comb. After that, you need to heat the product until your hair is hard and dry. You do not want to use a blow dryer unless you have a diffuser on the end, as it will agitate the hair. After it is dried, you then rinse the hair gently until all the protein is rinsed out. Then you apply the moisturizer and let sit 2-5 minutes. Do not wash your hair again for at least one day. Hope this helps!

I wasn't planning on using it again anytime soon! I shook it up pretty well, but it was still super goopy and dried really fast. It was so thick, I can't imagine running a comb through it at all. But my hair was pretty dry, maybe keeping it wet would help.

And I was using a diffuser on the end, I just couldn't remember that word (haha).
