What Video Tutorial Style Do You Prefer?

I'm sorry if this has already been posted. :/

I'm kind of having trouble figuring out which style is best, because I'm going to be filming videos soon with my new camcorder.

Do you prefer voiceovers or talking during the tutorial?

Or do you prefer just showing what you use & how you do it without talking and maybe playing music in the background?

Or what about a picture slide show with text?

You can also list other styles that you prefer as well.

i will watch any of the ones you mentioned as long as they are detailed in describing the products and the method used in application....although i do prefer talking during the video or voiceover as opposed to slide show with text....with the slide show it can be hard to see exactly what is being done. also if the focus of the video is an eye look, try to zoom in as close as possible to see the application in great detail

Talking.

I'm hard of hearing so if I can't lip read, it can be a problem. I don't ALWAYS need to lip read, but with some people's voices/accents, I do. Now of course I don't *need* anything because I know that all I have to do is WATCH IT, but if since you're asking me to choose. c:

Plus voice overs seem so rushed.

Picture slide slows are annoying as hell to me.

And please, please, please if you're never, do not do not do not put music in the background. Personal pet peeve of mine.

I HATE tutorials that are just photographs with text over it... NO, please do not do that.

I don't mind tutorials that have voice overs, or if you're just talking while applying makeup. But please, no photo by photos.

Thanks guys, Don't worry, I won't be doing the pictures with texts lol. I had to at one point, but now I have a new HD camcorder that I'm trying to get the hang of, but my computer is a bit slow to handle when I want to edit a video :(

I tend to watch anything that is good but my preference is just showing the product and showing how to apply. I don't like too much chatter but if I had a choice, I prefer voice overs versus actual talking throughout the video (and hearing people breathing kind of creeps me out haha).

The whole "Michelle Phan" style is much more straight-forward and professional, so as far as production is concerned, I prefer a rehearsed voice-over where technique is demonstrated precisely. However, tutorials that document the entire process with minimal edits are more fulfilling and educational.

Either way, I'm sure once you start filming, you'll develop your own personal style that you're comfortable with.

Agreed with Kensie L. You have to find your own groove when it comes to doing tutorials and videos :-)

I think you should do a mix :) voiceover and just music are both good in my eyes :)

I prefer no talking and just seeing what the person is doing and using. Some people talk way too much or they seem rushed on a voiceover. I never pay attention to voiceovers anyway, and I can obviously see what the person is doing without her explaining it to me. But photo by photo tutorials just don't do it for me. :)

I prefer talking, like xsparkage. I like how it all flows better, plus I think that it's easier to make them like that.

So glad I found this because I was wondering the same thing. I'm trying to develop my own personal style as I go and have tried each v(except for the photos thing) and Ive noticed when i talk during filming it takes much longer, because I tend to ramble! :) BUT voiceovers have been pretty helpful since I have to sometimes do my videos while all 3 kids are home and playing the background while i film, so when editing I can mute the track and do the voiceover! Im glad to see everyone's opinions. BUT to answer the question (sorry for rambling) I prefer either talking while filming because it can be very educational or the voiceovers because it can shorten the video and gets straight to the point!
