I want to move to France once I am done with my Cosmetology licensing in the US. Can anyone give me any information on what kind of paperwork I will need to transfer my cosmetology degree in France. It will be from Paul Mitchell. Additionally, I am a dual citizen of France and the US so I will not need any visas. Please help websites, anything to get me on my way I have a year to have this all planned out! Thank you Beauties!

Have you checked in with the Cosmetology school that you are going to, they should have more information for you.

I did that are still looking into it. They were not very helpful, especially since this is not something they deal with a lot in Cincinnati Ohio...lol May be I could contact a branch of Paul Mitchell in New York or something

maybe if you contact the state board of your state they can help you, I'm sure they'd know something about that.

You degree from Paul Mitchell is not as important as you state license you'll get once you pass your state's written and practical tests. Once you pass the state exam then you're licensed and then when you move to France you can then look into taking the requirements needed to be licensed in France. Remember like the US, France has different regions like we have States. Each region sets their own requirements on licensing just like each State sets their own requirements on licensing. Depending on where you move to it's possible you'll have to go to a cosmetology in a French school and basically start over because they won't recognize your cosmetology license from your state.
Let's look at how things are done in the US. Let's say you're from California and you just graduated from cosmetology school and took your exam and are now licensed in California. If you were to move to say New York you need to have five years of experience to be fully licensed in NY state. You can get a temporary license AFTER you prove you're a licensed cosmetologist from California AND pass NY cosmetology exams (written and practical). If you moved to WA state you would have to have your current license and pass the state exams (written and practical) plus pay the fees associated with those tests (same in NY).
My guess is that if you move to France it would be the same thing. You would have to have a current cosmetology license, proof of education, have enough hours to meet their provinces requirements and take any needed exams (written and possibly practical and most likely in French) plus pay any fee needed. You'll also need to have a work permit and/or their country's Visa proving you're in France legally.
Best thing to do is to contact a school in the area you're moving to and see if they can help point you in the right direction.

That is what I am afraid of. I really do not want to start all over. This was extremely helpful thought. I had not thought of contacting a school in Toulouse to see what is needed. Fortunately for me I have citizenship in France so that will not be an issue. Thank you so much!

Yasmin K hit it right on the nose. I had a friend who came to the states from London and she had to do her schooling all over again because her license wasn't recognized in the U.S. It actually worked out in her favor because despite the setback she aced her state board exam and the instructors and admin of the beauty school were so impressed that when she graduated they offered her a job teaching and she was still able to work at her dream salon. Don't fret just yet.

Thank you very much. I did find out that I will probably just have to complete a two year apprenticeship when I arrive in France. As long as I am able to make some kind of money I will be fine. I putting my funds together and it is good to know what I will need before I get there. Right now I am in the process of renewing my French passport as well. I will keep you all posted on my journey and may be I could even write an article about it if I am successful with my dream!
