I have been thinking about getting it as well. I am still not convinced it's worth it. I could be wrong. Haha

Haha yeah I think its a gamble every month. One month great samples! Next month meh, next month ughh. But I have always liked that. When I was younger I used to go into Sanrio and get their surprise goodiebags. I guess this is the more 'grownup' version of that.

I hesitated for 6 months and I finally gave in. It is a hit or miss with every box. But wether you like the products or not that is sorta the point of it. To discover what products you like and what you don't. Of course you are going to ask if it is really worth it but if you like to try out new products and discover what could be your next favorite product then it is worth the $10 : )

For $5 more there is Eco-Emi however there is also a waiting list to get on. Once you're given a link to join you have up to three days to sign up or you get bumped and have to "reapply" to get an account. The downside is whatever day you sign up THAT will be the day you're charged every month. My day is on the 11th which still irks me because I'm basically paying over a month before getting a box.
I signed up July 11, got my first box at the end of August (after the 20th). I was charged on August 11 for September BEFORE even getting August's box. I was charged on September 11 for October and September's box hasn't been sent out yet. I'll probably be cancelling before October 11 so no November box for me simply because I dislike how the billing takes place. So that's the only "con" to Eco-Emi in my book and it's a big issue for me. That said, the products sent in my first box were pretty good. I've tried everything in my box and liked pretty much everything BUT the vitamins (which I found at Walmart for under $4 for the same size in my Eco-Emi box).
On my blog I've posted links to lots of other subscription companies similar to Birchbox. Some are as inexpensive as Birchbox, ranging from $12.99 monthly to $15 and some are expensive but products are sent out quarterly rather than monthly (Test Tube, Beautyfix). http://zadidoll.blogspot.com/2011/09/monthly-sample-subscription-boxes.html
GoGoGirlfriend looks promising at $12.99 a month however it seems weird to me - you can either pay $6.99 each month and get a box every other month (basically paying $13.98 for a box every other month) or the monthly fee for 99 cents less and get a box month. Basically it breaks down to being $83.88 for six boxes per year or $155.88 for 12 boxes per year.
There are also Facebook freebies through various companies. The problem with that is it's sporadic and you're not guaranteed a product. Example, Milani had two giveaways this summer - one for a blush and later a lipstick. I was able to snag both but many people couldn't even get one. That's a gamble especially if it's limited to 1,000, 10,000 or even 25,000. I've had free eyeshadow palettes from Payless when they first launched their beauty line, products from Milani, Bobbi Brown, Tatcha, L'Oreal, Lancome, Suave and so many other companies but again you have to keep an eye on Facebook because freebies go fast (like the Burberry Body deluxe sample, mini samples still available). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO8NegaO3To

Yasmin, wow--that was really helpful to me! I have been contemplating getting the Birchbox and never even knew about the other companies doing it. I am going to think on it some more, for sure, before doing it. I want to see what other people say on here about how they feel about what they actually are getting each month.
Thank you so much!
