When did you first fall in love with makeup?

I find it so interesting that so many makeup lovers began their beauty obsessions at such different points in their lives! I began my makeup love really, really young. I remember begging my mom to buy this avocado green drugstore eyeshadow in kindergarten. I wasn't allowed to wear it out of the house, but that was the beginning of the "end" for me! I was lovestruck! I had quite a little collection as a kid that was a mix of drugstore products I'd begged for and whatever my mom no longer used. I got to try Chanel lipstick before I know who Coco was! It was a crazy progression of color lust from there for me ;) It helped that my best friend growing up was just as enamored!

What about you? Did you start early in life? Late in life? Are you just beginning?

Like Smashley, I started LATE. I only started playing with makeup 3 years ago and I am 32 now. :D

Before I started playing with makeup, all I had was a small makeup train and I only used face powder, one eyeshadow, liquid liner, mascara, an eyebrow pencil and lip gloss.

I started playing with it when I was 13 years old. Didn't realy get super serious till I was 25 and working at Nordstrom. Every two weeks I was dropping $200 on make-up and skincare and it didn't help that a few of my good friends were make-up artists in-store so they would often use me as a model during events. And samples galore. Now my stash is no where near what I had when I was working for the company but enough for my husband to take note of what to get me for Christmas.

I begged and begged for makeup when I was in middle school but when my mom finally caved and bought me some, they were colors all wrong for me and it turned me off makeup until my senior year of high school. While I wore the basics through college (concealer, foundation, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick) I had one item of each and barely made use of them anyway. It wasn't until a few years ago a sweet boyfriend wanted to get me a "nice" birthday gift and hit up the Lancome counter that I tried my first eye shadows that looked (and felt) tremendous, got a saturated black eyeliner, and could see my eyelashes with the mascara. NEVER LOOKED BACK!

He wanted me to *feel* as beautiful as he thought I already looked (I'd never believed him when he said I was) and he thought these "pretty, girly things" might do it. He knew me better than I knew myself. Nowadays I can go without makeup and trust that I look pretty good, but rockin' a face that I accentuated myself? I know I look fantastic and it makes me feel even better.

Such a great topic! I used to play with makeup actually made for kids (the kind that has no pigmentation lol) when I was around 3. My mother also used to let me play in her old makeup and I'd beg to give the other kids a make over. Then around 12, I had a cousin who worked for Dior and would give us unused samples and products from his counter. Thats when I discovered eye cream! Ive been hooked on skincare since then! I actually wrote a post about little girls and makeup (mine in particular) check it out if you want :-)

I love it! No matter when you started, we all end up in the same place in my opinion--obsessed, empty-pocketed, and creatively fabulous ;)

I don't have a daughter (2 little boys) and can't have one unless we adopt (which we're considering in a couple years), but I'd let her play whenever she was ready. But that's just me! Leaving the house with it? That'd be another story haha.

Can't wait to read more posts, it's so cool to hear all of your stories! I've met a lot of makeup lovers that started later in life. One of my best friend didn't even get interested until her mid 20's ... and we lived together when we were younger! I used to sit on her to do her makeup before a date hahaha. She hated me then, she's thanking me now ;) To each his/her own!

I have always been into lipgloss and lipstick but i didn't get into foundation, eyeshadow and blush until I was like 28 or 29 and i am 33 about to be 34. My first foundation and eyeshadow came from Mac since Mac was the talk of the town and what all my friends were using but once i got pretty good at applying eyeshadow and foundation I started getting into drugstore brands and some other highend brands. I guess you say I was a O.G. when I started. lol

My makeup addiction began at a very young age. I have been around makeup my whole life, my mother used to work for Nutria-Metics and would bring me along to parties and to clients homes when she'd do bridal makeup. I would always be playing around with her makeup, mainly lipstick and eyeshadow.

Late, I didn't trend the makeup waters until the end of high school. And that was trying out once in rare while. It was only when high school finally ended when I had it on a bit more. Now I can't leave the house (most of the time) without makeup! 2nd year university now.

When I was a kid and watched David Bowie in the movie Labyrinth & also Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands. They are still my fave movies of all time. Also when I was little, about 5yo, my mum owned some bright red lipsticks & I remember the packaging was blue & floral...I would get into trouble for stealing them but mum told me I seemed to have a knack for applying makeup well :p Thanks ma

interesting story.. when i was going into 9th grade (summer before, i'm currently in my second year of college) my friends at camp just one day decided to put some makeup on me and i was okay with it. after seeing the final results i fell in love with how i looked and it boosted my confidence completely. that following school year i came to class and nobody recognized me and i got so many compliments and at that moment i just fell in love with makeup... i couldnt be more confident in myself.

When I was about 15 I completely fell in love with it. I used it before, a little bit but wasn't too mad about it. I was a right tomboy. When I started learning more about it, I just loved it and have loved it ever since and I always will love it! =]

My first knowledge about makeup came from YT back in 2006. My mom didn't use it. She did have a blush, I tried it and I broke out. I believe I was 9-10 lol. When I came to YT I saw either Julieg or Sarahvictor and I've love it since. But it wasn't until 2007-2008 I actually started wearing eyeshadow, mostly eyeliner. Now I'm a makeup-a-holic. :)

Well, in my case I found it always interesting, cuz of my mom, she put this RED lipstick that I loved when she wore it, made her look always happy...
I always was around makeup, growing in my family where there wasmainly women, mya aunts :)
but never got serous about learning the correct application until maybe a year, not that long, right?
But I enjoy try to make people happy, to raise their self-esteem,play with color and see the transformation...
I still learn as much as posible, cuz for me fullfil's me in every aspect, makes me feel great.
but of course makeup is one of those things in life that, everyone look in a different way.
I remember the first time I tryed to play with makeup( used my cousin as model), she was pissed at me, my bad, but you learn from mistakes. until the day of today is somethng that makes me smile LUV for Makeup you can say <3

It's all about learning and progressing and evolving, right? Sometimes I look back at old looks I've done and think "whoa, that was pretty good" or I look back and think "was I awake when I did that???" haha.

Love hearing everyone's stories!

Early/late for me? I wore dark burgundy lipsticks when I was 12 just to rebel and it was the "teen" thing to do, but then looking back at those pics, it looked pretty awful... so I was scared off of makeup other than basic eyeliner and brow liner until the age of 24. I've been in it to win it for the past 3 years, and loving every bit of it.

I started just so I could polish up my "professional" look as I grew into my "career"... but then once I got the hang of using brushes and getting what I wanted to translate on my face with makeup, I've been obsessed.  =)

It all started with glitter for me. I looked ridiculous at 12-13 in middle school with glitter on my eyes but I didn't care because I liked shiny things hahaha. Now I know how to wear glitter, among many other makeup looks but I can't pin point out what made me want to start using glitter on my eyes, it was makeup glitter but I was rocking glitter on my eyes way before Ke$ha made it cool, that's for sure.

Anyways I started using makeup when I was 12....BUT there are a lot of beauticians in my family so I grew up around that. They deal more with hair, however, that is how I was introduced to makeup and I've been in love with makeup for the longest.

I've always been fascinated with makeup since I was 13...but I started getting serious with all of it about a year ago. Starting off with the standard eyeshadow and sponge, to actually owning a million makeup brushes...it's crazy. It's like painting and art for me!

when i look back at my childhood pictures, you will always see me covered in make up! haha apparantly, i was a real make up lover back then xD

i always liked slight hint of make up, the usual natural ones or simple ones like just mascara & lip gloss. But later, gradually as i grew around girls who wore make up everyday, i felt intimidated as i never wore any make up. My mother never allowed me! Haha it started to grow on me & one day, with my own saved up money, i bought my own pair of mascara, eye liner & eye shadow. I was 15 then. i just turned 16 now. haha pretty late i guess! :)

my love for makeup started when I was in Kindergarten - seriously. I got in trouble for wearing mom's lipgloss and she was called into the school. I've always applied makeup in school then washed it off before going home. It was a big problem for mom...one that we laugh at now that I'm an adult :-)
