i have combination oily/dry skin....i put lotion on my face @ nite & in the morning, depending on the time of year is how much i put on. anyways when i put my foundation on, which is a powder but this happend even when i used a liquid, i get flakes of skin; around the mouth, on the chin, nose, forhead sometimes.
it drives me CRAZY!!! i do use a mask once a week, when i think about it..lol.
how do i get rid of them???
any suggestions or support would b helpful.

Exfoliate prior to applying makeup or you can use lemon juice as a toner, which acts like a facial peel. I also find that using a foundation primer helps foundation glide over drier patches.
Also, I notice I get flaky skin when I buff my foundation or powder on. You want to stipple your makeup on, instead. Make sure you are also using the correct foundation during the colder (more moisturizing, if your skin gets drier) and warmer (more matte, if you get oily) months because that will play a huge roll in your skin not responding well to makeup application.

Are you using like, body loition on your face or is it an actual facial moisturizer? If it's body lotion, then that could also be part of the problem. Body lotion has a lot more oil in it, however, it's quite a bit harsher. So it could be you have more sensitive areas on your face that are reacting to the lotion. But if it is an actual facial moisturizer, then ignore everything I just said, lol!

@ arie..lol.
i use a facial lotion for nite & day. i wish we could use body lotion, it's a lot cheaper!
does anybody know, should i use a brush or a wash cloth to wash my face??
i try using my hands but i can't seem to get all the make up off.
and i've already done the dermatologist thing. the stuff they give u, makes it even dryer :(

Use makeup remover first.. whether it's a wipe, or a traditional type on a cotton round or cotton ball. Then use your cleanser.
It is another product, but I find you use a lot less cleanser and it's a lot less manipulation on your skin to remove the product. I use my hands daily and a wash cloth every few days for exfoliating.

I used to have that exact same problem except my flakes would be on my cheeks and nose. I called it my permanent sunburn. I started moisturizing every day (Aveeno at night and Nivea in the morning) and I exfoliate about twice a week. When ever my skin starts flaking again I exfoliate and moisturize right away. Sometimes if it's bad I use Vaseline on my problem areas.

Oh hello. I've come to find that perfect skin = perfect make up. I know exactly what you're talking about because I get the same thing on my cheeks and nose which ends up putting the dry and dreary to my face of the day.
To counteract the dryness you have keep hydrated through lots and lots of water and beauty sleep. Also, you'll want to keep to an oil-free daily moisturizer. I have oily-combination skin as well and I use Aveeno Clear Complexion - but I pack on at least two or three layers prior to applying primer and foundation.
Now, with putting on the face. I've learned that your foundation brush, whether it be stipple, flathead, airbrush can dry out your face depending on your hand motions. With my Sephora #55 I use circular motions and I've found it has done me just that.
To counteract this minor boo-boo you can use a sponge applicator to dab on the foundation. I was always paranoid about spongers because I thought it was a product eater - until I used stipple. That's the hungriest one of them all!
So that's my make up routine and it's worked pretty well with me!
Anyways, Let us know how it goes! (:

Try using a lotion w/ ceramides in it - that's what controls a slow release of moisture throughout the day VS. just moisturizing when you put it on until it dries out. My favorite brand is CeraVe PM moisturizer @ night: and it's only $12 at your local Target or drugstore. Hope that helps!

I have the same Problem:P I use to use Ponds Mouistirizer everyday and night and it helped alot. I also really reccomend a daily Exfolient. I use the Neutrogena grapefruit dailey cleanser and it slufs off all the dead skin without being to harsh. You should definitly try it out, it works great!

Same here, what kind of night cream/moisturizer for dry skin would you girls recommend? For daytime I use Aveeno's Ultra Calming Daily Moisturizer since my skin is crazy dry and sensitive, I also exfoliate using Neutrogena's Deep Clean Invigorating Foaming Scrub.
