I love MAC 213 (small asian eyes so it's perfect) along with almost any other MAC brush mentioned above. Also, if you're willing to invest a bit Fresh cosmetics has fabulous brushes as well. Love them! Obviously skill is involved, but I think personally that good brushes are key!

I have an entire breakdown on must-have MAC brushes for the eyes on my blog: http://belle-melange.blogspot.com/2011/02/first-lesson-eyeshadow-brushes-mac-must.html

I identify 4 main brush types you'll want to use/purchase. Unless you become a brush junkie/snob like me, those will probably be all you'll need... however, once you open up your world to brushes that basically do the work for you, you'll want to keep purchasing more to see if you can discover other new mediums out there...

I own MAC, Hakuhodo, Sephora, Ecotools, Essence of Beauty, Sonia Kashuk and other various brush brands. MAC and Hakuhodo are my favorites as of now... but I'm still trying to finish off collecting those before I try the Shu Kolinsky brushes... [gotta' keep saving $]

I discourage you from buying the MAC holiday sets though. Those are MACHINE cut VS. regular sized MAC brushes being hand-cut. You'll feel a definite difference once you get to know how your brushes feel on your face. Hakuhodo brushes are virgin hair that have never been cut - so they're the softest I've ever felt. You don't necessarily need high-end to have soft though... but don't go high-end if you're going to go half-way with the travel set. Save the $ and get one of each of the 4 I suggest on my blog post, and you should be good with your every day essentials. Good luck!

Shelly - You're right about that. CS brushes are Crown Brushes.

I could be wrong about this, but I think Coastal Scents' brushes ARE Crown brushes.

SIGMA are the best... they are often as good if not better than MAC's brushes.. and the prices are at a fraction! I do also like a few of the Coastal Scents brushes too. I haven't tried Crown Brush yet, but have heard a lot of great things about them as well.

I like Coastal Scents eye brushes. The face brushes suck!
Also Eco Tools are really great, I love all of their brushes.
The ELF powder brush from the studio line is a beyond FANTASTIC brush! It's their most popular brush and I can see why, and only $3

mac are high quality but sigma (dupe) are half the price and some of their brushes come off as softer than their "mac version"

For Face: 109, 116, 182, 187
For Eyes: 219, 217, 226 (it's limited, but it makes a re-appearance every once in a while), 239, 266

MAC, I'mma let you finish but the ELF powder brush (flat top) is one of my favourite brushes of all time! LOL Seriously, that brush is brilliant.

Also a fan of Royal brushes.. their S.I.L.K. line is gorgeous. They're not super cheap, but my experience has been that the quality is fab.

Sigma for sure. :)

I recently bought five brushes from them -- four of which are MAC dupes (the other was one of the Sigmax brushes, the F80). They're brilliant. :)

I also like some of the brushes from e.l.f.'s Studio Line.

holiday set brushes are not hand made so they are not as good as the full size brushes.
Sigmax brushes are awesome, I have two sigmax brushes and i must say they are great.

Thanks everyone! I do plan on getting the MAC brushes that are used for eyes, at the least! Plus they have the holiday collections that just posted online where you get like 5 brushes for $40!! You cant beat that, I also just ordered the Sigma "Sigmax" 3 brush set for the face...So I'll let you all know how they turn out!

MAC Brushes though expensive really give you your money's worth. When I started out as makeup artist I opted for other brands but eventually found that MAC's quality is still superior to the rest. Therefore I am slowly building and shifting to MAC brushes. My favorites are:

109
189
192
163

Sigma are great brushes and pretty cheap... now, everyone says coastal scents are good too, but honestly I haven't tried them out yet so I couldn't tell you... but Sigma, definitely-great!!!

you dont need to spend all that money on MAC brushed. they are good quality, but you can get cheaper brushes that are the same if not better qualtiy. Places like Crown Brushes, AMAZING!

I'm down with the mac brushes, my fav. brush is the 217 it works wonders

I love MAC brushes. They are great quality and last for a very long time without losing brush hair. I rely on three of their brushes that serve me well: small angled brush, large shader brush, and powder/blush brush. The small angled brush is great for eyebrows and for lining the eyes. The large shader brush is the perfect size for applying eyeshadow and the powder/blush brush is perfect for quick blush application without requiring much control. Mine have lasted for years and I prefer these brushes over the brush sets that MAC generally offers.

Im looking to start collecting more brushes. So far I only have the BH cosmetics brushes. What are the best MAC brushes or any good brand to get?
