My friend just started at Paul Mitchell, and they supply you with books and some instructional videos I believe. You also get shears, combs and brushes, a blow-dryer, a flat iron, a waving iron, hair clips, a spray bottle, aprons, curl rods, a manicure set, a mannequin. a shampoo cape, an apron...etc. They provide you with everything. And usually at schools, styling products, shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioners, makeup, oil, etc are all kept in a stock room. = ) I know for a fact that most cosmetology schools do not focus on makeup for more than like a week at max, and usually they keep their own sets of brushes, and makeup at a counter that everyone uses. So if you haven't, it may be wise to invest in your own professional brushes if you plan on doing makeup outside of the school for clients and such! Sorry that was so long! I have TONS of close friends that are/have been in cosmetology school and I have learned alot consequently lol. = )

You can buy your own things, either way you have to pay for the supplies. It depends on the program you do for what you will need to get.

if you own a lot of products that they already have in their kit you don't need to buy the entire thing... you can go over what you have with a teacher and see if it's good enough to use.

most beauty schools supply you with all your essentials, but its always nice to buy your own stuff too. when i was in beauty school, i liked buying my own hairspray, and other hair products.

It really depends on the school. My kit was included in my tuition and it was all brand name products. Some schools have an additional kit fee not included in tuition and some schools provide you with generic products. You can always add to your kit if you aren't happy with any of the products. I would just ask the school about the kits.
