How far would you go for your love of makeup?

I live in New England and we were hit with this crazy freak Nor'easter last night. We lost power in my city around 8/8:30pm and JUST got it back, but earlier today my hubby and I had to drag the little guys out to get more batteries, flashlights, water, storm food, etc. because they estimated up to 3 days for my area (thank goodness they were wrong since it's in the 20s and 30s right now). Anyway, before leaving I actually put makeup on haha. It occurred to me after that I might be a little crazy! I had just spent an entire night alone with my 2 boys because my husband was called into work, with no heat, no electricity, sleeping in clothes under a million blankets ... and here I was doing my makeup by a window! Come to think of it, I put makeup on before going to the hospital to give birth to my sons, too ... is Rachel Zoe the only one that can understand my thinking?!

So my question is, how far is too far? When you're doing your makeup by a window after a natural disaster does that make you crazy or just dedicated haha ;) By the way, it's not that I think I'm ugly without makeup, I just love wearing it!

On a side note, we are very lucky to have power now, our families don't and some may not get it back for up to a week :( There are emergency shelters scattered everywhere. This storm dumped so much snow it took out trees and power lines everywhere. We're used to snow storms, but not in October!

Haha love your story :)

I'm in NH and from MA originally (hit by Irene also--what a mess it left in some are)

I put makeup on to go to the grocery store...even if it's just mascara, gloss and blush. I totally understand you! There is nothing wrong with wanting to look put together by applying makeup! I love putting makeup on :D

On April 27 my town got hit by an ef5 tornado and we were out of power for a week. I didn't put on makeup that whole time, only took a few showers at that because the water was so cold. But i guess at times like that you are just grateful to be alive and dont care WHAT you look like lol. A couple of people on my road died and toooons of houses were completely leveled. It was very very sad. My family was volunteering at the church and I'll never forget people coming in for food and clothes because they lost everything that they had owned. Made me very grateful for everything that I had.

Hope everything is okay up there! I hadnt heard about it, but thats crazy...snow storm in october!

^ The Alabama one? That's the only one I can think of since that same storm came up North Carolina's way. We dealt with the same supercell system. Not fun, man, not fun.

Yeah, in Alabama

Haha... You ladies are too cute! I live in Cali and with all the earthquakes as of late around the world, I've secretly been thinking about earthquake proofing my vanity, along with my electronics. It doesn't make sense, but it amazes me how we as humans develop relationships with the things we own and the world we create around us. Although it can sound silly, I completely understand where you guys are coming from! Stay safe, but if a makeup pick-me-up can improve your outlook on the situation, do it! =D

I think the first thing other than anything, would get my first plush toy and run lol, but yeah that toy is the most precious thing i own, I mean makeup at the end is makeup, you can buy it again(exept for limited collections) but I think that what I would do is just grab the things that are really important to me.
I'm not sure what I would really do vuz I've never been in a natural disaster.

@Soma yeah its very true what u say, we bond to things that might look odd to other people, but we luv because of something within us( we humans are weird :p)

I live in Southern California too, but in my area we have to worry about fires through certain months. We always hear about them being SOMEWHERE, sometimes you can even smell stuff burning in the air or even see smoke from somewhere far away. Well last year a fire came SUPER close to my parents house and we had to be evacuated. I remember scrambling to get my whole makeup kit, but honestly I was so panicked I was grabbing everything. This book on learning Russian that I tried 3 years ago??? Yes!!! I NEEEED THIS!!! I had the most random crap in my car...
