The worst beauty advice you've ever gotten?

So, a couple of months ago my friend and I went to the Tabatha Coffey book signing at Neiman Marcus. Once you were through the line and had met Tabatha, who is so incredibly sweet btw, you were filtered into the cosmetics department of the store <<big shock!>> haha. My friend was in her own little world and I was wandering around when a Natura Bisse guest rep snagged me and said "You're so pretty, but your skin is so dry! Do you have a couple minutes?" Wow. How could I turn this down, it was an emergency!!!! I had dry skin!!!!
After marketing about $1200 worth of products to me, one thing she said really stuck out in my mind. She basically told me that drinking water to hydrate your skin was a myth and only topical creams and moisturizers could help me. I remember just thinking she was a total fraud after that. How could that possibly be true? Now if she had said it's always important to drink lots of water to stay hydrated, topical moisturizers can help your body and skin retain moisture I wouldn't have thought her to be a such a shmoozer, and I wouldn't have been so offended that she thought I'd believe that.

What do you all think?
What is the worst beauty advice you've ever heard?

A friend of mine once said to me: 'Pale people aren't allowed to wear nude lipstick, this looks crap.'
Okaay, she's totally wrong. :D

haha, maybe she's doing it all wrong! I personally love nude lipstick on all skin tones!

Wow. That was just rude of the salesperson and you should have told her that. The worst advice wasn't so much advice but when the owner of the local Mica Bella kiosk was pushing her product on me, and yes it did send alarm bells ringing in my head which I ignored, was that she claimed that MicaBella was all natural. No it's not. There are ingredients in it that are not completely natural. It took me several months, a complaint to the Attorney General and a lawsuit but I DID get my money back. One thing is for sure, never trust people who are selling you things because they will bend the truth or outright lie to make a sale.

OMG Yasmin that's horrible! Especially if you're allergic to anything or have really sensitive skin. I hope you're okay.

I'm okay but it did teach me a lesson - don't believe everything a sales clerk (even if it's the owner) tells you. She told me I could get a refund then I find out later they didn't do refunds (printed on the receipt by the time she had no signs up). I do have sensitive skin so within hours I had a rash all over my face and neck where she applied the products. I don't know what exactly is in MicaBella's products (and I've since found out many of those companies like MicaBella are not honest about the ingredients) but I have never experienced any problems with other mica products like from Coastal Scents or TKB.

So lesson learn - try before you buy and don't let ANYONE convince you otherwise.

I can go on and on with this one.. Its funny to me when people try to give me "tips" and they are totally wrong... For example I went to a MAC makeup class the other day and one of the ladies told me the best way to match your skin with a product is to glob some on the top of your hand...really? I am pretty sure my hand is alot tanner than my face.. Or one of the other ladies said that everyone with oily skin needed emolliants in their products. Sometimes it's just best not to speak if you do not know what you are talking about. Lol

In high school, my school newspaper had a beauty column for one of the prints. The girl who wrote it said to put lotion on your face as a moisturizer. I thought maybe she was confusing lotion and moisturizer, but then there was a picture of cruel body lotion next to it. >_< I wrote in explaining how using body lotion on your face was NOT a great idea.

LOL Shauna. How can a glob of foundation tell you anything? Like you my hand color is different from my face! LOL

worst advice was that i should wear more blush said the lady at the MAC counter trying to sell me all of the mineralized blushes from the quite cute... even though i have red cheeks and really should wear that much blush if any lol.

The worst I hear is the sales ploy: "So natural, you can wear it to sleep"

...we ALL know who used that sales pitch! Shameful to even advocate sleeping in your makeup!  >.<

The worst peice of advice I've recieved would be, never wear red lipstick (specifically to me.) My aunt told me that it make me look like a "hoochie mamma" Hahah.

I'm not sure I have a "worst beauty advice" as much as a... rather odd "observation."

"So, I can tell by your complexion that you have sensitive skin," said the saleswoman.

On the way out of the store, I looked at my friend and said "She can tell... wait, what?"

My friend then told me that the sales woman had been staring at my arm while saying this. I had not been paying enough attention to notice. Quite confused was I.

In the end, it is true my skin is sensitive, but something seems a bit off in this whole thing.

Using a really light concealer to highlight above & below the brows.

I prefer my brows to be anchored to my face, rather than appear like they are floating. o_O

I'll never forget getting a pedicure and the woman doing my pedi was trying to convince me that EVERY woman gets their eyebrows arched (or should) and that my natural arch just isn't enough. No ma'am, I don't think I want to voluntarily go and let someone rip the hair off of my face! These brows have been going 24 yrs strong, and you know what they say if it ain't broke...

after being at my friends house in 7th grade and she straightened my hair, and i had reeeeeeeeeally curly hair...i loved my hair being straight and ended up straightening my hair every single day to the point that my hair became straight itself from being so dead.....it took me 4 years to get my natural hair back to my nice curls i use to have...time when on and after a haircut, and time of not using heat, my hair is now back to the way it was! really curly!....the beauty advice i had was before i cut my hair where a guy told me all i could do was get a perm to get it back, maybe he just wanted money for his salon for me to get a perm..but i would have wasted so much money when it just took time

One time I was sitting in class and one person actually said "Who wears lipstick? Thats for old people" I was like are you freaking kidding me! I was wearing lipstick at that very moment and was like dude your rediculous! haha

a MAC MUA told me not to wear lipstick, makes me look old!!! AS if! I'm soon to be 22, but I want to have fun with color!!!

Lipstick gets such an unfair rep.. though to be fair, before I got on this makeup train I always thought lipstick was for old ladies too!  LOL

@Tamara R : I do remember back in 2003-2005 reading in a stupid French teen magazine something like "go for glosses, lipsticks are for grannies". I almost choke thinking about it, but back then, it was the AGE of gloss!
