So I have brushes and I've been looking at tutorials trying to learn how to use them and such. I'm coming along okay I guess but I have a couple questions:
When I watch makeup tutorials the brushes have numbers [ex. #239], what does that mean?
My brush kit is a hammy down from my cousin [she never used it so she gave it to me] and her kids have gotten into it. Some of the brushes are messed up but I don't know what kind of brushes they are to replace them. What should I do?
Well that's it for now but as I start to experiment more with them I'm sure I'll have more.... Thanks for the help ;]

if the brush has a number, it's probably a mac brush or something. some companies number their brushes rather than naming them by what they are used for. your best bet is to search around online or at the store for brushes similar to them. if you need to buy brushes to replace them and you're just getting started, try purchasing studio tools, eco tools, or sonia kashuk brushes. they're a cheap alternative but great quality to get you started as you get familiar with brushes.:)

thebeautydepartment.com has a few awesome articles about brushes. So far they've only done face brushes but they'll probably get around to eyes soon enough.

MAC brushes have a numeric numbering system, but they are broken down into types:
100's are face brushes
200's are eye brushes
300's are lip brushes

I would TOTALLY check out Enkore's brushes 101. He breaks down the numbering system and makes recommendations on which brushes you really need, especially for beginners. He has one that covers face brushes and another covers the eyes.
You can start here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZgxRLQQRs8
He's fabulous and I LOVE him for these tut's.
