I have super damaged hair. It's been highlighted and I use lots of heat on it. I've been toning down on the heat though. So do you have any at home remedies or products to buy?

I used Kerastase Oleo Relax Slim system it is awesome...my hair is fab now because of it!

Once a week I use Pantene beautiful lengths replenishing mask (makes your hair so soft too!) and I just bought "hair food" it's a mask filled with vitamins and helps prevent breakage!

I don't think you can really cure it. Hair is dead cells so it cant repair itself like your skin does.

Your hair can repair itself..

Deep condition(Joico Reconstructor), stay away from heat as much as possible. For instance, if your gonna flat iron it, dont blow dry it..let it air dry. The reason your hair dries out when you use heat is because heat causes the cuticle to expand and open, releasing any moisture thats in it. A hair/shine serum (Paul Mitchell Super skinny) or a leave in conditioner will also help you. Use the hair serum after you towel dry your hair, then after you flat iron your hair. Dont wash your hair everyday either, so your hair can replenish its natural oil (you can buy dry shampoo to take away any oil or shine at the roots..baby powder also works). On weekends if you can try not to wash your hair all weekend and wash it on sunday night. Only deep condition 2 times a week for a month and then once a week once your hair starts to repair itself. I find using hair salon products work the best because they arent adding extra additives and preservatives to your hair.

here's an inexpensive one that did wonders on my hair!

Garnier Fructis Leave-in Conditioner.

It helped repair my hair and plus makes it silky soft! I believe I got mine for $1 on sale at Jewel Osco.

Thank you so SO much guys! My hair is so dead and i've been trying everything. I will definately be using all of your advice :D

Is it also true if you put a leave in conditioner in your hair and a hair net then blow dry it your hair will have a better reaction to the conditioner?

I wouldnt use a hair net..it would dry out the conditioner and make your hair greasy. but when i was in hair school people used to come in and get deep conditioning treatments all the time. We used to wash they're hair, put deep conditioner in, and really work it in, and put a plastic shower cap over it and put them under the dryer for 5 minutes (if you use heat it will open the cuticle and put moisture inside of it) then you take the heat off for 5-10 minutes, then rinse it out with cool water (by letting it cool and using cool water itll seal the cuticle to keep the moisture in) I wouldnt recommend doing this often though..maybe twice a month.

@Andi....Garnier is wonderful can't believe I forgot about them!

There are a lot of good deep conditioners out there. Joico is the one i used the most in and out of school, and i still use it. Ive tried others here and there. I currently just bought one by OJON but im waiting for it come in, ill let you know how that one is! :)

you're hair actually CAN'T repair itself. It is dead when it comes out of you head, it is not made of living tissue so it can not repair. So, for example, if you have split ends, there is no way of getting those ends back together until you cut it off. Sure, you can make your hair FEEL softer and healthier, but once the hair that has already grown out is damaged it is damaged.

Courtney,Well i know that your hair is basically dead protien. I just want to make it healthier and softer. But thanks :D
and Kaylah, Thanks!! I'm actually going to buy the generic version of joico reconstructor at Sallys cause its really cheap lol. I hope it works the same

Macadamia oil product range! Shampoo, conditioner, treatment mask, leave in spray & the oil!! Your hair will live a new life :)

Definitely agree with Sarah K.! I use Macadamia Nut Hair Repair Mask, and AHHH AMAZING. I had really damaged hair from bleaching and dying, so I gave it a try and it works fantastic. Use it once and you'll definitely see the difference already! Now, imagine using more? MHMMM :)

Whenever I feel that my hair is getting extra damaged, I try and wash it every other day, and if it doesn't fix itself, I use either a overnight treatment (( L'Oreal Everstrong sulfate free fortify system overnight hair repair treatment )) Or if I want to go more natural, I will rub some olive oil in it, and leave it in for about an hour, then wash it out. This always works for me, but I have naturally oily hair and skin. (( I dye and highlight my hair, and straighten and blowdry it almost everyday))

Ditto what Kayla said...

try getting a little tiny trim just to get rid of the crazy crazy dead ends. then after that, buy a hair serum. i use chi and healthy sexy hair, you can probably get those at a beauty supply store or maybe even get lucky and get them at a ross of TJ maxx! when your hair is slighty damp put the serum in your hair and then proceed to style. it will make a huge difference if you dont already use it. you can also get a leave in conditioner that will do wonders as well. a leave in conditioner will also act as a detangler, so when you comb your hair you dont break off more hair. hope this helps out a bit doll. :)

The Macadamia line really fixed my hair, I used that for a month, and stopped heat styling my hair.. and it is 100 times healthier, and shinier:)
