hey guys, I'm having a hard time cleaning my foundation brushes, especially when I use my revlon colorstay foundation. It is so stubborn and won't fully come off my brushes when I clean them, help!

I generally mix a gentle shampoo with just a liiittle bit of a makeup removing face wash and it's worked pretty well for me.

I have been using the Dr. Bronners liquid soap and it works great! And it makes my brushes smell good haha

thanks for the advice so far! as for my brush cleaning routine, i've been using dish washing soap and olive oil (condition the brushes) but when I condition my brushes with olive oil, it still leaves my brushes greasy and the dish washing soap is supposed to be very gentle on my brushes but doesn't do a very good job getting rid of all the excess foundation. Any ideas as to what products make good conditioners?

I don't bother with olive oil when cleaning synthetic brushes because they're essentially plastic and they don't need conditioning. I actually use isopropyl alcohol or Cinema Secrets Brush Cleaner (smells so good) to clean my foundation brushes. I use MAC Studio Fix Fluid, which is similar to Colorstay, and they clean the brushes fairly easily.

i really appreciate the ideas/suggestions!

what is the best way to dry your brushes? (lay them on a towel...?) and whats the best technique to use when you want your brushes dry within a few hours?

Try an oil or silicone based product. You can try a cleansing oil or a silicone based makeup remover such as lancome bi-facil or Neutrogena Oil-Free eye makeup remover. After you have used that to get out the product, wash with soap/shampoo to get out the remover/oil.

If you use isopropyl alcohol to clean the brushes and lay them on a towel to dry, they'll be dry in an hour or two.

If you use any soap such as baby shampoo or Dr. Bronner's soaps, dilute it in water, and use it in a foaming cleanser bottle! You'll waste less product, less water trying to wash out thick product build-up in your brush hairs, and you can actually see how much pigment is left if your brush by judging how clean your foam is! You can completely recycle and old bottle in doing so instead of buying one, and to demonstrate, I made a quick video on it on my page...
