Style Rx by Bridgette Raes is a great book and once you read it you'll be looking at your friends' faces in a whole new light. It's uber-technical and approaches dressing almost from a engineer's standpoint. It's all about helping you to create a long, lean line by being aware of the shape of your body. Plus, you'll learn a slew of techniques to help you dress according to your intensity, texture and movement.
If that was all the book offered, it would still be a great read. But Raes didn't just address dressing for your shape, she went way, way beyond the whole "wear this, not that for your body type" shtick by talking about three magical words: texture, movement and intensity.
I'd been dressing for my intensity for years, but not knowing what or why. When I wear soft, peachy colours I look washed out, almost sick. Light, airy jewelry does nothing for me. The whole nude toned clothing trend is one I intentionally pass. And when I shop, I don't even bother looking for delicate styles. I need bold patterns, bright, saturated colours and clothing that "stands out".
Thanks to this book, my need for boldness now makes sense!
That's because intensity refers the level of boldness or softness in your clothing which is directly related to your colouring and contrast. So, if you have a lot of contrast (fair skin, dark hair) that makes you a little bolder or more intense. But if you have fair skin, light hair and light eyes then you're overall look has less contrast and is therefore softer.
