What do you think are some beauty myths? I thought this would be an interesting question to ask since I assume we have tried almost everything to help enhance our beauty.Do they work? Or don't work?

Toothpaste for blemishes. This used to work when toothpaste was simple in the '50s. Now with all the additives it can actually make the blemish worse or bleach the skin. Fun topic :)

Thanks ladies,@Alicia I agree about the tooth paste the ingredients have change and now that stuff can burn your skin off.@Em L that's interesting I'm going to have to try that.@Ben@Jacqueline I also agree about the shimmer eye shadows I think they look great on all ages.I also truly agree about the strong eye and strong lip combo I think it can work when done with the right colors and application.I think sometimes the strong eye and lip can give a fierce look.

I'm surprised their wasn't any other myths posted. So I think Vaseline on the lashes is a myth only because I tried it for years when I was younger because my mother had me try it, but I didn't see any results the only thing I thought it help with was separating my lashes before for my mascara.I also think the castor oil is a myth because that wasn't working either and then I thought if you naturally brush your hair to stimulate growth then that could possibly work for eye brows and eye lashes and that may make it seem that products work because you constantly use it to get results but if you think about it it could be the brushing stimulate's growth.Idk lol but just my opinion.

That darker skins can't don bright/light lipsticks. UNTRUTHITUDE lol.

I really like bright lip color on darker skin.
It may not be a myth, but I think most shampoos available are horrible. Even the pricey ones just dry everyone's hair out.

@Jill K, I think one of the biggest beauty "myths" is the claims made by the shampoo companies. I think a lot of it is just bogus - if you look at the label, so many "color-safe" shampoos have sulfates in them - the *main thing* that dries out hair and strips color!

@Ben, lol yes that shampoo that has been around for years and use to cost a dollar and now the horse mania has got popular and they racked the prices up..I remember trying it in the 90s as a teen lol it's crazy how it came back.@Kym lol Untruthitude!! Is right ;-)@Alice yes Sulfates is awful my scalp dries up like crazy.I have sulfates free shampoo.

Thay you can't wear moisturizer if your skin is oily. you still need an oil free moisturizer. Dry skin is main reason for aging!!

That you can't wear cool makeup colors if you have warm skin. Not true! I have warmer skin and love to rock all different shades of bright lip stains and I get a lot of compliments even when I am wearing a color that "shouldn't" go with my skin tone.

I agree with Jacqueline. You can do a strong eye/lip as long as it is the right combo and works for you!

I haven't tried this yet, but I read that if you apply talcum/baby powder to your eyelashes (focusing on the ends) between coats of mascara, it apparently makes them look longer and fuller.

Gabriela, I totally agree about not washing your hair! Every woman I've seen who said that washing your hair is unhealthy had already fried theirs from dye, heat and chemicals. I don't think washing is what's really doing the damage there!
And I think another myth is that adding salicylic acid to your foundation helps prevent/heal acne. You can't just keep piling that stuff on throughout the day and expect healthy skin, sometimes less is more!
Lastly, the fear of oils is something I just got over. Ever since we first heard that excess oil creates acne, we've tried to eliminate all oil from our skin. But your skin uses oil to moisturize itself, and drying it out will only make it more imbalanced. I used to have really oily skin and I tried everything to remove all oils from my face, but as soon as I switched to an oil-based moisturizer, my skin improved significantly!

That a 'light' tan will protect you from sun burn. That's just bogus and a great way to get skin cancer and wrinkles.

I definitely think the hair washing thing depends on hair type. I have naturally curly, thick, dry, heat-trained hair and there is no way I could wash my hair every day. To be honest, I rarely use shampoo, only conditioner. If someone with a different hair type tried that, their hair would probably be greasy/smell/look bad/etc. So I think it's definitely about hair type, you just have to do what works for you!

One that gets under my skin is being told that darker complexions look best in gold, burgundy, dark rose lippies. I hate those charts! Dark complexions can rock just about any shade and whenever I go to department counter and they point out these drab colors to me I literally turn and walk away. There are no rules in makeup so I don't get why people insist on following them.

The BIGGEST myth is America's standard of beauty...when in fact, there is no REAL standard...everyone has a different opinion as to what Beauty looks like.
