So I am looking at becoming a freelance mua. I took a "bootcamp" from a succesful mua in my area and I am thinking of taking a course from a modelling agency that is in my area. I am going to practice a lot and on anyone that will let me. I know that I might have to do some free work and do trade for skill work type stuff while I am getting started.

I have a question about the business side though. I know that in my area you have to be registered as a business unless you have your business JUST your first and last name. If you add anything extra to the name it MUST be registered. I was wondering though, if you take classes first and then work on building up your kit, and THEN register are you still able to use the classes and the makeup you purchased and all that stuff as tax write offs? And are you guys finding that you are getting a lot back, coming out pretty even, or having to pay a lot for taxes? I am just getting into this so I am curious what to expect.

You need an accountant, lawyer and insurance. Before you start charging people.
