Hey all :)
I've been hearing a lot about toners, but what are they actually and what do they do? Does anybody know any good drugstore toners? If not, any high street ones? Thanks in advance :)

It's after you cleanse they restore your skin back to its right oh balance ( acid level ) otherwise without it your face is prone to break outs and infection

It helps to close pores and restores the skins ph balance which is great since you're natural oils are stripped when you cleanse your face.

I've read on a beauty site that toners aren't needed anymore, they were created because the makeup removers and creams and the past were too oily.
But I tried once using them, and didn't like. Generally I think that less is more about cosmetics:-)

They don't close your pores. That's impossible. They temporarily minimize them just like regular water. It depends on what you use. Not all toners restore skin back to its PH level but they do well at cleaning any excess make up soap and water couldn't get off. They do help with acne and pimples but cosmetics have improved so much now that I don't see it as a required thing.

Pores don't operate like doors. Open/close by use of water or products for that matter. To minimize their appearance...keeping them free of dirt which is actually oil that oxidizes in the pores (blackheads).

Toners get rid if any excess junk like oil, sebum, and dead skin cells on your skin after you cleanse.

A nice drugstore toner...Simple. Can be snagged for $6 bucks. A basic toner that is alcohol free. Witch hazel is another good one...Thayers Witch Hazel has a few formulas that are pretty nice. Can find that one at most health food stores and is priced at $10. High-end and my personal fave is Renee Rouleau Elderberry toner.

Most toners dry my skin out. I've used a mixture of distilled water and apple cider vinegar (50/50), which works well. I've been using coconut water for several weeks and it's amazing...my skin loves it and feels softer than it has in awhile.

I went to school for esthetics recently and toning the skin was very important. Toners help to balance out the skins Ph and also clean up any cleanser left behind. If your skins on is not balanced then your skin is not going to absorb products used after as effectively. The only way I would say a toner isn't need is if your cleanser is Ph balanced.
