They seem slightly broken. If you don't want to cut it off. You can use the tea bag method to strengthen your nails.

I think you are experiencing what happens when nails are exposed to moisture. The white and translucent parts that you see are the nail peeling in layers. Washing hands often, submerging them in water often, or wearing rubber/latex gloves for long periods all contribute to this. Any chance your new job happens to be in the food service industry? When I worked at Starbucks and Sodexo my nails got like that because we had to wash so frequently.
Use a strong clear nail polish if you can to seal the nail. Otherwise, it will keep happening. It doesn't really damage the nail (nothing like acrylics), but it will make them difficult to grow long without breaking.

I have the same problem. I use to do my own acrylics and pop them off, so my nail actually detached itself from the nail bed at the tops. They were also extremely weak not only from the acrylics, but from the harsh sanitizer fluids and always being in water at my job when I would wash dishes.
I hate to say it, but your best bet would be to cut them down very short and start from scratch. It's much easier to do that then go through the whole process of strengthening your already weak nails. I cut mine off and they've actually grown back pretty quickly.
