Quick! Can I use 20 vol developer to touch up roots?

I'm in a pinch and I ran out of 30 vol developer, and was wondering if I could possibly use the 20 vol developer with the Loreal Quick Blue Bleach?

My roots are a dark blonde/light brown and only about half-inch grown out.

I wouldn't. You risk ending up with the dreaded 'ring of fire'...particularly if you have more than a half inch of root.

Yes it may take a little longer to lift compared to 30. 20 vol is the highest you should put on your scalp.

If it makes any difference, I'll be using a demi-perm toner afterwards. So wouldn't that even out the color if there is a slight difference?

I'd trust Megan as it sounds like she's more experienced in this area. If you do go ahead and do it, I suggest trapping as much heat as possible around your root..loosely wearing a plastic bag or disposable plastic shower cap after application. :)

Been a hairdresser for years. The higher the volume the more lift. They each have a range in which they are able to lift. A 20 will have more of an orange result because it physically can not lift as much. Just as a 30 will have more of an orange result than a 40. The only time you usually use 30 is when a client has EXTREMELY damaged or damage prone hair. Pairing it with a non professional grade bleach will turn your hair brassy. It just physically can not meet the demands that you're trying to achieve
