Okay so today I didn't wear makeup thinking it would be good for my skin to breathe after wearing makeup upon makeup constantly. well I noticed that every time I decide to let my skin "breathe", even if its for one day, I instantly can tell that its in even worse condition than if I had worn makeup!! my face feels more oily and more pimples (specifically white heads) appear. does anyone know why this happens?? btw I am naturally acne proned so its not unusual for me to have pimples and be oily.

Makeup can actually act as a barrier from dirt and pollution that's in the air especially if it has skin improving ingredients.going bare faced without at least some kind of barrier on your skin can cause acne due to exposure to these types of elements.

This is why its important to wash your face at night even if you didn't actually wear any makeup...something I'm terrible at lol.

Oh yea I exfoliate every night and cleanse, spot treat, moisturize every morning and night. is moisturizer the kind of barrier your talking about or do you mean something else??

A moisturizer should help. if you're already doing that, maybe a primer would help better?? they generally have a silicon in them that creates a barrier between your skin an foundation so I'm sure it would protect against the elements as well.

For me its worst no to wear makeup too because of the smog the sun the dirt outside is simply worst than make up. Just make sure to use a good moisturizer and a foundation or bb cream that works good for your skin. At day you have to protect your skin from the environment, at night you can let it breathe 😉

I agree with kenzie... for a primer barrier you can use the smashbox acne prone primer :)

Maybe see a dermatologist, rather treat the acne then to cover it up.

It could be what people call "purging": because your skin is finally able to "breathe" without makeup, it is trying to push all of the junk caught underneath out--causing acne. I would go without makeup for a while and focus on clearing up the acne.
