I am currently studying make-up artistry at university. I have already studied makeup and special effects for two years at college and passed with qualifications. I am a few weeks into my uni course, and even though they stated this carries on from where I finished at college, I am studying the same things and have gone back to basics!
I am thinking long and hard about dropping out, as it is a lot of money for a piece of paper saying I can do what I have already learned two years ago!
If anybody has any advice for getting into the makeup industry, or what your opinions are about degrees in makeup please feel free to help me! haha :-) thank you xoxox

Definately not! Once you graduate you'll be expected to gain experience to be credible, just like without school. The amount of debt(if you're using loans) will not be worth it. I would take an apprenticeship with an artist and move up that way(you'll make it that way if you're good), and use your education resources to get a degree in something that actually requires a degree to be lucrative.

An esthetics license may be worth it, it usually 4-7 months and then u can get your license to do makeup, waxing facials and an all around background in the beautification of skin;) there's financial aid usually available too depending on your income, hope that helps

Yes! don't drop out, you should speak with a Student Advisor about classes you don't need. Get the degree no matter what, its not just a piece of paper. Companies look for these as well as experience.

Experience in the field is far more valuable than any qualification. Nobody has ever asked me about my qualifications or certificates - people want to SEE what you can do so you would be best investing your time and effort into building your portfolio and assisting local mua's and photographers :)

This is correct Jessica L, experience is more important...

Rachel H. - No matter what, don't drop out, getting your education is just as important as experience. You will be proud of yourself when you graduate, one day a huge company will discover your work & will want you working for them, what're you going to do if they ask for that "piece of paper" & you don't have it? think about it b/c it will make a difference! :-)
